I would like some advice, if that is at all possible.

I have sold my car on the 7th August, unfortunately I had no V5 document with me at the time of the sale and so came to an agreement with the new owner, that they would come back round when I have the said document in my posession (10th August) and pay me the rest of the value of the car (£100).

The car is classed as SORN and only had 2 months MOT left on it.

My query is the new owner still haven't come round to collect the V5 and I have been unable to contact them, what can I do about it so that my old car doesn't earn me any vehicle violations from him driving it or trying to get tax on it fraudulatly.

I understand that it could be a simple misunderstanding between myself and the new owner and there is a valid reason as to why they haven't turned up yet.

I'm not worried if I never see this geezer again, as I didn't think I would ever sell the said car and was going to just scrap it when I moved house.

Any ideas (already sent an email to DVLA asking them)

Send the V5 with covering letter explaining to DVLA by recorded delivery post.

The longer you leave it the more you are at risk.

Ditto

Until you send your portion to the DVLA the car is still "yours" and you'll be the 1st port of call for any NIPs, parking tickets, London CC charges etc etc

I'd tear off 'your' bit, fill it in & send it to DVLA and as far as the DVLA's system is concerned, it'll be the new owner who's in the wrong for not sending in their bit. I guess the DVLA will eventually send the new owner a chaser & he'll either remember to come & get the V5 or you'll discover that he's a dodgy character who's trying to fly under the DVLA's radar.

I don't know, but I reckon it would be best not admit to the DVLA that you still have "his" portion, as they might decide that you're pulling a fast one and illegally driving around a SORN vehicle...

{edited to add:} Just realised that you didn't have the V5 on the 7th, so I guess the DVLA had it. Send your part back ASAP and send the other part back separately with a letter explaining why.

Cheers for the advice, but alas the reason I dont have important documents is because, I rent and don't particulaly want documents like that kept in the house so keep them all at work.

The DVLA have been quite quick and told me to send the V5 minus the green section into them tomorrow and they will do the rest (just in case said person does turn up), they also said I can just tell anyone who contacts me that it is sold with an explanation and send the documents back.

The best bit is only one person knew it was for sale and I no doubt will be runing into them shortly, so if anything goes a miss they will be the first person on the list when I ring the police about a dodgy car still on the roads.
