Why would you choose GT86 over E36 M3 Evo/e46 M3?

I know it's fast becoming the new PH favourite but I don't understand.

I had a little blast against one the other day in my M3 and the Toyota didn't stand a chance. Two things mine is only a 3.0 and it's a cabriolet(heavy) so an Evo would destroy it.

If I was in the market I just don't think I could buy the Toyota. What justifications are there?

That said, I'd take the E36 M3 every single time, it's one of my favourite cars of the era.

For the price of the Toyota you can get a decent CSL and you can get a BMW warranty on one too............

If everyone thought the same (well, equivalent) when the e36/e46 M3s came out there wouldn't be any for you to buy now. Stop deriding new-car buyers and start thanking them. Without them you wouldn't have a buoyant used car market with lots of choice for you.

Who gives a fk what 2nd hand car you could have for 25k. Irrelevant.

M3 Cab will not hold a candle to the GT86 in terms of driving experience. If you don't understand that then fine, the GT86 is not for you.

Was just about to start a thread singing the Toyotas praises as I've just come back from a test drive...

Comparing new cars to old is complete horse st and a waste of time!

Why did you buy your lardy 1.6 ton car when you could have found one a lot lighter with the same bhp/ton.

The only decent comparison I've seen made so far is the BMW 125i. Same price, SAME AGE, but a bit heavier/more power

Fair play to OP for preferring the faster car. Nothing wrong with that.
I think there is a lot more to cars though, particularly when we are talking about speed. Acceleration gets boring pretty quickly. Whereas the feel of the chassis, handling, adjustability and all of that stuff lasts a lot longer and really gives a car a deep-down appeal. There are surely a vast number of other reasons to prefer the gt86 too - running costs being one of the biggest.

No matter how good it might be, "that gearbox" puts many off.
But if it suits you, go for one ......
