7.5k luxury commuter..... which one?
Discussion
due to getting made redundant
and getting a new job
I'm on the lookout for a new car. I want a nice motorway car as i'll be doing 18k a year... I'll get 45PPM
Needs 40+mpg
7.5k budget
reliable
A good mile muncher.
Nice stereo
Nothing too brash.
I really fancy a Lexus is220d, the bells and whistles one with every option.
Any other ideas?

Um... no. Superb car for the motorway waft but Ive moved jobs closer to home now and the 530i is more 'me'. A little trade off in refinement vs oodles more poke, handling, estate practicality... etc.Jason - only the IS200 I admit. Does the newer car significantly move the game on then?

Yes it does really, its a later generation and has the same fit/finish as the other lexus models.Jason - only the IS200 I admit. Does the newer car significantly move the game on then?

erm will you get 45ppm for the entire 18,000 miles? Or only part of?

Also I don't really understand this... most people have to pay for their own fuel. If you are having it paid for, why on earth would you want a 40+mpg vehicle? Surely now is the time to run something a little barmy with little to no personal outlay for fuel?
That said if you are not needing huge performance I think I'd be looking at an x358 Jaguar XJ6 or maybe even a 2.7 V6 HDI Citroen C6 for this budget. Suspect you'd struggle to find a much more comfy place to sit for long miles.

45ppm for the first 10k then 25ppm after. I want 40mpg as i've got about 4000miles to pay for myself per year. Adding in servcing/insurance/tyres etc etc. I don't want to get suckered into running a 30mpg car. If I can end up a few quid up to cover depreciation etc then all the better. The idea being that in 4 years time i'll have enough 'extra' left over from the milage to buy another 7.5k car with the value of this car too. Also I don't really understand this... most people have to pay for their own fuel. Oh boohoo my heart bleeds for you. A whole 4000 miles.... hell I have to pay for triple that a year and they aren't even commuting miles.jason61c said:
