Hi everyone,i am new on here and would like to know if anyone knows of someone in the York area who could convert my 1989 xr3i cabriolet from cvh to either a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec engine.Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.I have posted on there but no joy as yet.The xr3i still drives nice but i would love to have the zetec fitted as they are much better and look good when fitted.

Gives some idea of what would be involved. Doesn't look horrendously difficult (the blocks are related so there's very little fabrication involved) but I'm guessing you'll get no change out of £1000 on the labour.

By convert do you mean an engine swap with loom/ecu etc?
I know a guy, in Sherburn, that could do it.
Do you have everything you need for the swap? What are you doing about brakes?

Excellent,making headway at last.I am after an engine swap but i have read lots of different threads on various sites.Some say i can use the cvh efi set up with 2.0 focus injectors and some say i need ecu/loom etc.I do not have the engine or anything needed for the swap at the moment but i do buy the odd mondeo/escort which i break for spares now and again so i can get the parts required once i know what is needed.Thanks again.Dave.

Without sounding negative, what is the point in putting a zetec in? Why not just spend some money making the cvh the best it can be or going all out and sticking something worthwhile in it?

Never been a big fan of the cvh even when they were only a few years old.Its a car i only use in the summer and not looking for something to tear around in.The zetec seems a pretty straight forward swap.I know i could go and buy a later escort with the zetec already in but i like this one as it always gets comments when your out in it.

How about a CVH turbo swap? They drop straight in, and will give you around 140hp as stock, and can get upto 200-ish with the standard internals,turbo etc.

I have just inherited my late Dad's pride and joy, a white XR3i convertible, 1989. The car itself has has only done 40k miles and has been garaged all its life so although a few rust bubbles, is very solid and in generally great condition.

The engine sadly has been replaced as it seized when a vacuum pipe blocked. I'm yet to get it running but have been thinking hard about what to do with it. Having had a new (used with 80k) engine and the fact it was stolen twice, there is no need to worry about keeping it original sadly...which makes me wonder if i should modify it and make it a car i can keep forever and really enjoy (despite the fact the wife is not happy about the though of this! to be fair, it is a bit chavtastic, but then the fact it was my dads and its retro appeal makes it cool and it could be a great fun summer car to enjoy if i don't take myself too seriously)

Anyway, sorry for the waffle- ultimately im looking for some advice. If you were me, what would you do?
I dont want to spend a fortune on it but if it can be made into a great weekend/summer toy for not *too* much money. Id love to hear peoples suggestions.

To answer your question, yeah, in those circumstances, I'd definitely be keeping it and improving it

If you only want the increased capacity then you can build hybrid ZVH engines using ZETEC bottom ends with CVH heads thus keeping all your original CVH wiring etc.
