How do other people feel the traffic will be from tomorrow onwards when the games lanes kick in, we have contracts in London that need doing so will have to get in and out each day from Kent.
I have got to get to Pimlico tomorrow morning through the Blackwall tunnel, planning on leaving at 4-30am to beat the queues which is nice.

Erm, alow 8 Hours for every journey...

Seriously, the Embankment is going to be down to one lane, god knows how everywhere else is going to work.

This morning in the City appeared normal.

So far its added 20 minutes to my morning commute, and 40 to my evening commute, and the lanes are not open yet. It wil be chaos on the roads when they do. I have a coach season ticket, so switching to trains is all extra expense.

The Embankment will be awful, No traffic on it at the moment, but that's because they have basically made it illegal to get onto the thing by closing all the junctions and banning right turns. It's a mess.

South London is bloody awful to drive in anyway, so that's no better.
I am sticking the motorcycle in the basement garage at work and cycling in for the duration.

I'd recommend you get a train in and buy a Brompton or something.
The other, really nice, option is to take a boat. There's a pier by the Tate. There's probably one near enough the Blackwall tunnel. There's definitely one at Canary Wharf.

Its going to be fked. I've noticed trains and tube being busier at 6:30 since last week. We have extended our site working hours until 10pm and prepared to receive deliveries from at 5am (in fact I believe we aren't allowed to schedule them any later during the games according to Boris!)

Would the olympics on a sunday be busier than a normal non olympics monday rush hour? Just wondering.

I would have thought the best advice is:

  1. If you can avoid travelling, do.
  2. If you have to get into work, cycle or walk.
  3. If the above fail, leave plenty of time.
Do bare in mind this is the biggest celebration of sport and human ability in the world. It only happens once every 4 years, and will never be back in our country in our lifetime.

In the grand scheme of things, 3 weeks of difficult commutes is nothing. Enjoy it.

Had been working in London for 12-18 months up until April of this year when my contract finished.

Decided to look elsewhere for contract work as TBH last summer was bad enough in London (especially on the Tube) and I can only imagine how bad it's going to be for the next month or so.

Working in Bristol ATM and the commute, although longer, is nowhere near as stressful. Might look at London again next year if it's paying well but glad to be out of it with the Olympics kicking off.

Best of luck to you all who are having to stick with it, I don't envy you one bit. smile

We have been told to work from home, but have to come in on each Wednesday for face to face stuff but yes as of Monday the trains have been busier than normal.

Expecting it to kick off big time tomorrow onwards.

If you are coming in via the a13 a12 m11 from the east or any of the main routes from the west it looks like it will be a massive hassle........however driving round town last night the roads were very very quiet it's either going to be chaos and serious chaos or the roads will be empty, however I suspect chaos.

If you need to drive into London avoid the Olympic routes, and only drive if you have to.

I have been lucky as my commute is heading out of central London to se London so there are no zil lanes and over the past few weeks my journey time has shortened by around 15/20 mins !

Don't do it!

The army have set up roadblocks around London and plan to shoot everyone who comes within 50 miles of the city during the olympics. I hear that the poor souls caught within the barriers have been reduced to scavenging for discarded olympic-themed McDonalds burgers, while LOCOG officials race around the dedicated lanes in their BMWs shooting at the "civilians" using modified starter pistols.

That's what the Daily Mail said, anyway.

Also I did hear I think that there are going to be 1100 cars an hour using the Olympic lane network, that's 34 miles of dedicated Olympic lane.....

I reckon that's going to be around 30 cars per mile on the Olympic lanes at any one time between 6am and midnight !

That's going to be nuts !

Massacre. frown

There were claims that people were to allow at least an hour on entering the train stations local to the Olympic park to actually getting down to the platform and on the train, such is the expected level of congestion.

The only thing the Olympics will show up is the poor public transport infrastructure in the capital.

I used the tube for the first time in a couple of months over the weekend. It made it from Mornington Cres, half way to Euston before having to stop because of a train at Euston with faulty doors. We we stuck in the tunnel for 10 mins. rolleyes

After being in Japan in the last couple of weeks, it makes the UK's transport infrastructure seem third world by comparison.
