I've just seen an Opel Ampera & Chevy Volt for the 1st time!
Opel looks great in white.
Chevy looks like it's trying to look like an old hybrid (think 1st get honda insight) weird as they are essentialy the same car (I think???)

I've seen an Ampera but not a Volt.

One thing I've yet to see is the new-shape Zafira. Looks pretty funky in pictures but haven't seen one about yet.

Saw an Ampera in London about a month ago and thought it looked superb! I do actually really like it but £30'000 is pretty steep.

I read up on these the other day. Was quite impressed at first. But fk me sideways have you seen how much they cost!! eek

Another toy for rich people it seems, rather than actually being greener affordable motoring. frown

When a Golf GTI costs more than £30k, the Ampera looks like reasonable money for what is essentially an expensive prototype.

But, then again, most people are on over £40k a year according to a poster on here, so surely £30k is pocket-lint to most?

There seems to be a survey in the Lounge on income. Based on that I doubt many could justifiably afford an Ampera. As for the Golf, well it's over priced and aimed at company car hacks isn't it?

You could replace Ampera with Prius in your statement too. Prius drivers are either 85 year old people in cloth hats doing 35mpg in the inside lane, or company car speckers doing 95mph in the outside lane, getting 25mpg.

I guess the Ampera will be the same.

Just specced one to the same level as our Golf, costs about 50% more. This is silly swiss prices tho.
Doesn't seem too bad for the technology.

right up until the moment you actual get in it and drive it. Then it feels just like a £10k car...................

(ignore all the green and hybrid waffle, the problem with the wolt/ampera is the terrible car that encases all the hybrid bits!)

I drove a Volt a few months back, on a car test day organized for bloggers in Detroit. After the Audi A6 (nicest overall) and the new Focus (best handling, other than the horrible plastic steering wheel) the Volt was the car that impressed me most. The interior is even decent, for a US domestic market car.

If I had off street parking and could plug one in overnight, I'd probably put my money where my mouth is. One thing I especially liked was the way the car changed my driving style: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2011/11/is-the-chev...

I think it is one of the most interesting cars on the market as the drivetrain is fascinating.

Had a quick look at thew Ampera a couple of months ago at a 'green' motor show event. Looked great from the outside and the interior wasn't bad but nothing to shout about.

From a practical rather than PH perspective I'd open the hatch and look at the sill. putting anything heavy in or out of the boot is going to be an issue as the lip is incredibly high.
