But it should be....

Did you....

Undo the 3 hex bolts that hold the door latch in place, this releases the whole bracket assembly inside the car behind the cage.

With a bit of manoeuvring you'll be able to remove the whole bracket complete with door solenoid and door latch from behind the cage, should be enough slack on the emergency release cables.

Then you can change the soleniod right in front of you.

Is that how you did it??

Rich.

For once I have to come to the Cerb's defence: The engine bay is very airy and uncluttered, nothing has been that difficult to get to, with the one proviso that the timing cover cannot be removed in situ.

Apart from the fact that you have to take the induction system off to do anything under the bonnet......
Someone once mentioned that getting the clutch off took 4 - 5 hours.
I've just completed the job in 4 - 5 MONTHShehe

Yep - all you need to do is pop the trim panel behind the door, undo 3 bolts and slide the whole assembly back behind the upright then out. Not a big job at all - I just did both of mine to spray the mounting plates.

Sorry, but if that is worth moaning about then you are in for an unpleasant ride. Seriously - it's not that bad taking a few hoses off; removing (or rather replacing) the 4.5 fuel rail is another matter entirely, but you cannot complain about lack of space.

yep thats the way i did it but the problem bit is getting the thing back in place to get the hex bolts back in as i couldnt squeeze my hand in the gap to line it back up then when i did get it bolted up the bloody cable was hooked on part of the latch so had to take it off again.
today my fingers look like pork sausages as there all swollen trying to squeeze them through lol
but i did also do the mirror door switch and replaced a tail light bulblaugh

mmmm! think il go have some tucker now all this talk of sausages

Horrible jobs:

Jobs that should be 1-2 hours tops but areuch worse imho.

Steering rack
Alternator belt
Changing the oil cooler
Multiple suspension bush removal (boring and tedious)
Metal coolant pipes and hoses

Most other jobs about right.
