MSA Rule Changes
Discussion
The MSA are proposing rule changes in both racing and rallying, with only a limited period of consultation until the 17th of August.
Proposed changes in circuit racing are to get rid of the '4 wheels off' rule and to completely prohibit the use of kerbs!! Large number of proposed technical reg changes for rallying as well.
Let them know what you think. http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/newslist.asp?chapter...

That's not completely true. They are getting rid of the 4 wheels off rule, and if any wheel goes off the track you will be judged to have left the track, but kerbs are now part of the track where currently they aren't. So you'll still be able to use the kerbs, but if you fall off them you will be classed as left the track.Quite right, I missed that they would be included as part of the track.
ETA I think it's a good rule change to make then as it prevents drivers from using the grass on the oppposite side of narrow kerbs where the other pair of wheels still remain inside the white line.

i missed the point about the kerbs now defining the edge of the circuit, but i still think they would be better consistently enforcing the existing rules at all levels. the btcc blatently get away with it all the time and that filters down. even in f1,vettle was off the circuit at every other corner last weekend.
no need for new rules use the ones you ve got
I think this change will make it clearer when the rule has been infringed. At the meetings I've been to this season they've generally been fair and consistent with the application of the current rule, except for Knockhill where they are a bit overzealous.
However, I agree about them generally appearing to ignore driving standards rules in the BTCC in favour of the spectacle and that it's having a negative impact on the rest of british motorsport.

Interesting, this doesn't sound as bad as I thought it was.
The reason I thought it was bad that during our drivers briefing at the weekend the Clerk of the Course highlighted there was a consulatation going on and explained if it were to come into force no part of the car would be allowed off the track! (1 wheel over a white line would be an offence)

I think it just makes it more complicated, at the moment the while line is the edge of the circuit and as long as you keep part of the car within it your fine,
they are now saying the white line and any painted kerb is the track edge and you cant go beyond it. so dome places its the white line others its painted kerb, what if there are 2 levels of kerb painted and un painted..
just enforce the existing rule properly...
