Birmingham Balti ?
Discussion
As a stoooodent in the 90's I went to Birmingham uni. We had a shared house in the Lozzells (sp) area. This was reported to be the best area for authentic Balti houses, but was a pretty nasty area.
None of them had drinks licences, and it was not uncommon to see businessmen abandoning top level motors in dodgy streets, to enter these makeshift restaurant with shop bought cans of beer, wine.
Not sure if any of them still exist, but I've never had a Balti that matched up to it.

This article in the local newspaper might be of interest.
Lasan is very good, but also pretty pretentious, avoid Lasan Eatery in Hall Green, Kabbabish either in Moseley or Sutton Coldfield are good, Al Faisals used to be superb but I've only been once since they were refitted six years ago.
Sweet Chillies is also good.
Also worth s mention, although about a half an hour drive from central Birmingham is Indigo
Although Suriyas is currently the second highest rated restaurant in Birmingham at the moment, but I've never been there.
