As some of you may know I have a twin Turbo 4.6 engine in my Chimaera it has done approx 4000 miles now. It is a 4.6 Large Journal, Cross bolted. It is top hat linered and has a Real Steel fast road cam, ARP Studs, Double Timing Chain. new bearings, piston rings, JE Alt bracket. It has standard 4.0 TVR heads on. It runs 10psi to produce over 400bhp and 550lbft or torque. My car runs 8.5:1 compression using de-compression plates which could be taken off to make a good 4.6 NA again if wanted. Would be interested in also letting the whole lot go inc manifolds, turbos etc. I am building a turbo LS engine to get me to 700bhp+.

This engine is sweet its running in the car and can be demonstarted and the way it delivers power is impressive, but I want to progress further and the rover V8 doesnt make financial sense anymore. Ive been advised with some Big Valve heads power will rise to over 500bhp.

What is it worth?? am I better off seling as complete package or letting the short block go, will be selling gearbox also.

Regards
Neal

No idea Neal, but what are de compression plates.

They are laser cut steel plates that drop the compression, they come in various thicknesses and mate to the head with non setting high temp compound to get you to your desired compression. Some people like them some dont, I only go from what I know I have not had any problems at all but I do use ARP studs and nuts.

I think if the someone looking for a true 400 bhp+ with huge torque had a demonstration then you would sell the complete package no problem. Gotta be worth a comparable price to other turbo and SC alternatives out there.
Otherwise let me stick my 500 heads on your block and give it some gas.

I can`t understand why it only made 400hp with twin Turbos ..Was it the heads restricting it ..LS is nice but do you think you gave up prematurely..

Yes standard 4.0 Heads are at there absolute limit now, I still have the forged pistons and Buick 300 heads which would get you easily to 550bhp but I already have bought the LS engine and most of the bits.

Interesting - I have owned my Chim for 3 years now, and I love it. I would like to try something different but when I think about another car and then compare to current, I give up!

If I was in the financial disposition, I would probably be extremely interested - but for now I am just curious.

Someone who wanted to keep their Chim and just make it go bloody quick, your engine and gearbox could be an possible route - but the it has to be pitched at the right price so it is low enough as a suitable option to keep the car, you will sell it.

If it is too much, they may just want to sink their hard earned into a Tuscan, Cerby, T350 or Tamora rather than a radical V8 upgrade!

I think my next car will probably be one of the 4 above - but not for a while yet.

Best of luck.

Perhaps a better route would be for you to give us a rough idea of what you think the engine and box are worth, and ph'ers could give you a gauge of the market
Fwiw, and as you'll already undoubtably expect, you're not going to get back the many £000's you've put into it

Did you build it yourself or was it done through a known tuner as that'll effect the price quite a bit too ?

Bang on, depends on the numbers (of ££s).
Could be a very good option as a job lot for someone that prefers the Chim and the V8 burble and is looking for seriously more horses.
How big a job would it be to swap it all into a completely standard 4.0 ?

It could be done in a weekend with half decent garage facilities and maybe a mate or 2 to lend a hand.

A good used TVR V8 could set you back £2500+
Then add the turbos, MS ready to go etc etc and we must be looking at £3500-4000.
The CTS gearbox and paddle clutch set up has to be worth £1000 at least.

Knowing Neal I am sure he would take most offers seriously.
I do know he wouldnt take mine serious but i have been out of work for some time frown

Another LSx TVR, just wondered how many there are now, is there a list on here somewhere,
wiki would be nice, car, builder, engine,

Also when i built my car people were saying, it would not be worth the same money as a S6 Tuscan, but as more and more cars are converted and even NS/ power have built one it sort of becomes "normal"

Any advice then on a nice bottom end only 4000 miles from rebuild...

Top hat linered, cross bolted Large Journal 4.6, ARP studs, Real Steel Cyclone Cam, New Bearings, Pistons rings, Double Timing Chain.

Perfect upgrade for a 4.0 or 4.5 I thought.

In car can be heard running first, do you think £1200 is fair price??
