ecu on battery terminals

My TVR Chimp 400 suffered from lack of use during last 4 weeks and the battery went flat.
Eventually when I found it I was shocked to find the ECU balanced on top of the battery only mm away from becoming the perfect terminal bridging / shorting device.
Between the battery terminals and the ecu was a randomly placed carpet piece that had evidence of glue on it.
Is this the factory standard ? I am I missing some protective isulation / cover..?
Advice would be gratefully appreciated before the car becomes an expensive jubilee beacon..

Dont worry that is the standard fitment.. either that or jammed down the side of the battery box


its to isolate the ecu from the shocks and vibration being transmitted through it if it was securley bolted to the car...


Erm actually bollox i made that bit up but had you going..

my ecu is now in a box in the boot together with the airlow metre as its not used any more... atleast the standard fitment made it easy to remove...

my 96' 400 doesn't have a battery box, its clamped to the floor and the ECU is strapped in down the side of the battery. Don't know if it left the factory like this though, but looks neat enough.

That sounds like the cars i saw in Malaysia, they had done away with the stupid battery box and fitted a gel battery clamped to the floor this the terminals in front of you and the ecu was clamped

Think you've got the deluxe model if someone's tried to glue carpet to something - mines a piece of underlay or loft-space insulation (probably got asbestos in it )

Weren't you more worried by the way the "guts" all spill out like the closing scene in "Braveheart"???.....

Now that's standard, apparently!

Mines a basic early (1993) 4 litre. I had a flat battery recently too. My ECU (the bit about 8" x 6" with all the gubbins / fuses etc attached to it)was bolted underneath the shelf that the battery lives on. Other wires / boxes etc were just hanging around.

Charged it up and fitted leads for an Optimiser so I can trickle charge the damn thing rather than spend the hour it took to get the bl**dy battery back in place !!!!

Didn't need to do any special mullarkey to make it run properly after reconnecting the battery though as mentioned in other threads.....

I forgot to mention that I have just purchased (two months ago) from a performance specialist a rather nice 95 chimp with 40,000 miles , full TVR history in met dark green , mag leather , air con , cd player , sports exhaust , new rear tyres and a full 12 months warranty. I paid £13,995!
