Advice needed - 997TT
Discussion
Hello,
I am looking to purchase a 997TT and have found what looked to be a great, low mileage (8k) model from September 2008, with the majority of the spec I want.
However, a few things have been bugging me after taking a visit to the independent dealer selling it, and I need some advice from the forum if possible...
Firstly, the car was first owned by Porsche Financial Services for 2.5 years in which time it did only 1,700 miles. Does this mean it's been a demonstrator, a Porsche GB staff car or a track car? I'd be a little concerned if it was the latter I have to admit! Or could it have been a lease car? Has anyone seen this before?
Secondly, the first (and only so far) service was done in March 2011, after 2.5 years (I suspect to coincide with the sale of the car to the next buyer). This is outside of the normal 2 year schedule, so will there be problems putting a Porsche warrantly or similar on it? Will companies argue that it was not serviced properly even though it had only done 1,700 miles at that point? I tried calling Porsche tonight for clarification but they were closed, so will call again in the am.
Finally after only 8,000 miles it looks like it's gone through a set of tyres. Is this normal for this car, or does it also suggest that there has been some "good progress" been made on the track?
The car does look and sound great, and was fantastic to drive, but I have some niggling doubts based on the above.
All opinions and advice are very welcome!
Many thanks
Gary

Porsche Financial Services own it if bought on finance
Really? I thought they just hold a charge on it on the hpi register. Is Porsche different to others in this?Drop it off at OPC and have them check all that. See if there would be a problem getting warranty.
About tires. My turbo had 6k miles on it when I bought it from OPC and 1 tire was a bit low - they changed all 4 tires. All depends how you drive I guess and the quality of the tires of course.

I may be wrong but I thought registered keeper would be you and actual owner is the finance company?
I agree. On the V5 it shows only the registered keeper, which is what surprised me when it said Porsche Finance. I've not seen a finance company on a V5 before... that's what made me think it was either a Porsche demonstrator or something similar.Edited by Callughan on Tuesday 24th July 20:56
Thanks

Porsche Financial Services is an unusual one.
I had an ex-Porsche GB car and it was registered to Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited. I think this is the same for track cars used on the Porsche Experience.
Even the infamous Viper Green 997 GT3RS Gen 1 that was used on all the TV shows in mags etc, was registered to Porsche Cars Great Britain....
It might be some kind of tax avoidance way for some high level manager in Porsche having use of a top level car, but only paying something like £50 a month rent etc, thus avoiding company car tax etc....
As said above, ask an OPC...

Not a bad idea. I might suggest that, I guess if there is anything amiss that will be a good way of finding out. Thanks.About tires. Sounds like ex-company car (PFS) ??
Tyres don't last long if driven swiftly. I manged 6k out of last set which didn't seem too bad given I only ever drive it for fun. Not surprising as they have a lot of torque and a 1,580kg projectile to deal with ;-)
If under Porsche warrenty already, should be ok...if not, get it checked for over-rev in range 4+ as it's an expensive check if it's had one of these (I speak from experience). Range 4 should be no issue with engine however cylinders have to be pressure tested and oil analysed before they will issue warrenty. >4 and they won't warrenty it so for sakes of resale (and peace of mind), I would personally walk away (as lots of others for sale right now).
Hope this helps,
Doug
