I've just noticed the smallest of weeps from the seal on the clutch master cyl.. Very slight.. So where will I get one and is it a standard part or a modded TVR item.. I believe the slave cyl is standard SD1 and looks easy to replace..

Anyone replaced the master cyl or refurbed it with new seals.. I'm not too sure if that's economical or whether I replace the whole thing..

Cheers

Replace it, I have rebuilt a couple in the past for other cars when cash was tight but none lasted.

You may get away with a new seal kit but IIRC a few people have reported that it was only a short-term fix... I think the issue is that due to the angle between the clutch pedal and pushrod, the push-rod acts on the piston causing it to rub along the top of the bore, wearing it oval. A new cylinder or some clever machining may be the only solution(s).

The usual type fitted has the Girling casting nuymber 64676310 and the number 070 which is the bore diameter (0.7"); some people have fitted other, visually similar units with different numbers but apparently equivalent results.

Mr Tank, am I looking specifically for a wedge one on eBay as I had a look lastnight..
I take it this master cyl is fitted to other cars also.. Looking at Rimmber Bros, they claim the wedge is also the same as the standard SD1.. I'll check out the Girling one mentioned above..

Well finally sourced one. Master cyl will be fitted soon. Probably next days off, not today though coz I'm chilling watching James Bond.. It's been one of those weeks..

When it arrives take a look at the diameter of the hydraulic "hole" where the pipe screws in, lately there are quite a few around with bigger holes which means either changing the union end and re-flaring, or getting an adapter. Last time I got an adapter from Martin (the Hatter) but dunno where he got it from in the first place.

Adam, cheers. Good advice.. I'll check it when it arrives.. It should be Wed or Thurs..
Although I bought the service kit for the cylinders I doubt the master cyl will be reliable hence just get a new one..

Had a related problem on my way to work this morning.

Look what fell off the end of my hydraulic pipe:

So whipped off the pipe, got it in the workshop at lunchtime and bodged up a flare on the end:

Apologies for the poor focus.

Driving the last few miles with no clutch was interesting to say the least!

... update ... I'm pleased to say it got me home, in fact the clutch felt better than ever!

Yup. Gonna need a new length of pipe with two new unions as the new items are slightly bigger holes. Ah well.
