Braided hoses or plain?

I have been considering replacing some engine bay hosing as in bits down to the cam covers at the moment. Just wanting to here some experience good or bad with braided hose versus plain ol rubber Is silicone hose suitable for fuel/oil?

I think I'll be using some heat shield sleeving to replace the scruffy broken stuff too on my hoses and loom. Any recommendations?

And thanks to Anthony for showing this idea to me. I do like the look of braided.

Braided is fine for certain applications, I would not use it for fuel lines as you can not see it breaking down or perishing behind the braiding and with the risk of heat and fuel in the engine bay is not worth even thinking about.

(saying this mine is braided but it is all i could get last minute due to it being silly 7mm ID, but i will be changing back to standard for next summer)

New fuel lines supplied by TVR Power are stainless braided PTFE, no risk of perishing there hopefully. Silicone hoses are not safe for fuel!

I have replaced the brake vaccuum line and carbon cannister purge line with thick wall braided hose and the water hoses off the back of the rails to the Y connector with a suitable rubber braided hose. All my hoses are well secured so no real danger of abrasion or perishing and the braiding at least offers a degree of heat protection.
