Need a bit of advice: I now have an oil catch tank instead of venting the crankcase into the inlet but the little foam filter at the back of the nearside rocker cover is pushing out a little bit of oil. I can pipe this into the catch tank as well but will this cause any problems?
I realise that I probably have positive crankcase pressure now instead of negative as before but will this cause any damage to seals or gaskets?

Thanks Andy

I have taken a breather from each rocker to a catch tank, I am now unsure of the merits.

I have found oil weeping from the rear crank seal after much thrashing even with new seals, I believe too much crankcase pressure!

I had an issue with the catch tank inlet being a little small and that may have caused the problem, even so I am going to redirect back to plenum..........I think!

yes same, but bought a 'proper' catch tank with adequate openings as opposed to the silly little 'bling' thing I bought in a lager induced moment.

Andy, I reckon 1 to a catch tank and 1 to the plenum.

As you said, no negative pressure.

Although I ran 1 to a catch tank and retained the little foam filter with my old 4.6 for about 4 years and 30+ T/Ds!
I did encounter a little dribbling from the filter.

Plainly the original arrangement sucks pressure from the crankcase so arguably it does a better job of removing nasty acidic gases that may otherwise be absorbed into the oil. It does seem fairly obvious however that if you are looking for best possible power the engine will work better if it is not ingesting hot crank case gasses.

To get a catch tank to work reasonably well you need nice large bore pipe and ideally take it off both rocker covers not just one. A way of connecting them is to get a second breather flame trap and screw it into the oil filler cap hole. The top of the trap will take a 90 degree 22mm compression pipe fitting then put a small length of 22mm pipe in the other end and stretch some 19mm heater hose from Halfords over it to the tank. I used a 1.5l plastic food container with three holes in the top, two for the pipes and one bigger one for the gas to come out.
If you are doing any Motorsport the tank must be at least 1L capacity and have a way of seeing if it is full.

Some rocker covers have a splash guard screwed inside both the breather and filler holes and some don’t, without the guards it will throw a worrying amount of oil out.

Oh and take the wire mesh filter out of the flame traps.

I have just started running a catch tank off the one breather, with so far no side effects !
On a plus side smoother running at low speeds ?

Been running a catch tank since installing the sc, and keep getting an oil burning drip on the near side header, didn't cross my mind that the catch tank could be the issue as i do have high oil pressure scratchchin
