Just thought I would share this one with everyone.

Took a friend for his first blat in the Cerb yesterday. He was very impressed with the performance until.........

Driving down the A21, decided to turn off for home. Changing down from 5th to 4th, disengage clutch, engine screaming along at 4000rpm! First thought was stuck throttle cable, until fuel started spraying up the windscreen right in front of my chum! Pulled off the road (with revs still at 4000), switched off engine, popped bonnet and dived out of car.

On inspection, we could see that the fuel rail (metal thingy that supplies fuel to injectors I think) was coming away from top of engine and allowing fuel to jet out just above one of the injectors!

Fortunately didn't burst into flames, and very nice RAC man (I had no tools with me) managed to remove and re-fit the fuel rail.

Anyway.......spoke to dealer just now, apparently not uncommon (YIKES!) and will be dropping car round tomorrow for some thread lock on the four screws that hold the rail on the engine.

Has this happened to anyone else? May be worth a check every now and then!!

Sorry for the rambling post, but thought it was worth sharing.

Eeeek!

Thank god you're ok and the car too....

Any tell tale signs before this happened? Or is it like a flash of a second type thing?

I knew I forgot to mention something! Yeah, the engine tickover had been gradually increasing for the last 100 miles ish. Was on way home to investigate when it happened!

That'll be why, after I had a the first major service done 4 years ago, I noticed that the heads of the capscrews holding the fuel rail on had blobs of silicone over them to stop them working loose.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think I will get that fire extinguisher that I have been meaning to buy for the last 3 and a half years
