Video site surfing earlier I stumbled across this. Now, I know what a diff does and how it is supposed to do it, but I never quite fully understood the arrangement of gears and their individual purposes - but this video explains it in brilliant style!

That was a really good video, but there's no substitute for having a working model in your hands. I made one from k'nex years ago. It's great to be able to feel the difference in power transfer between the wheels.
Not shown on the video was the way that the wheels will rotate in different directions, but at the same speed if the input shaft is locked.
