I've been looking at a few AUDI A3 2.0 TDI 3 Door hatchback models however I keep having people tell me they ain't that good apparently and have a long list of 'common problems' which could occur at anytime?

My question is are these the A3 to go for or should I be looking for the 1.9 VAG engines?

Thanks in advance

I Know they are very well built, modern, economical things but what a dull choice!

I Deeply apologise for being critical and hope you get one and really enjoy it b ut there must be so many other cars out there that you could have instead, I dont think I've ever seen an 05 A3, Im sure there are tens of thousands of them out there but I've just not noticed one!

Good luck with your purchase none the less and I realise this is a bit rich coming from someone whose fleet includes a Honda Legend that attracted me just because of its anonymity!

I'm only after a simple diesel as I'm looking to save a few pennies. I've spent alot of money which I've lost on previous cars and I do alot of miles so I thought I'd get a boring diesel whilst I save some money.

My sis had the A3 1.9 and then the 2.0 TDI models. She really rated them, and swore that the 1.9 was more economical. I dont believe it and that she is just being a bit girly.

A friend had nothing but trouble with his.

If you google all the potential problems - he had them!
