Road Going racers
Discussion
Musing over a bottle of wine last night I started discussing with a fellow TVR owner about racing, and the boxter championship and how it would be interesting is there was an equvalent for the 4 ltr Chimaera eiter stand alone or as part of the tvr series.
the idea would be a standard kit of
Roll cage
dampers
brake pads
possibly wheels
list 1b tyres
harness
Race seat
rear reinforcing mounts
ECU Chip
Camshaft (possibly)
the engines would be stock other than ecu and maybe cam the minimum weight limit would be tvr's original road car weight so cars could be left standard inside and still used as road cars, all be it with the restrictions of a full cage, maybe with a bit of cleaver design the front hoop could be bolt in.
fitting a suitable cage under the roof line might be a challenge but fairly sure andy race managed his under the roof in his griff.
I've no idea what the cost would be for the kit, but wondered what if any interest there would be, after all there are more chimaeras than every other tvr put together but only 2-3 of them racing.

Sounds like it could be interesting. I'd like to do some racing, this year I entered my 2500M in the TVR owners club Speed championship an engine rebuild has been in the way of my competing but now done I've just put my first entry in. Thinking of having a couple of seasons at it, then if all goes well moving to some form of racing, Chimaera could be just the thing.....
Sounds an excellent idea to me. Sell a kit of upgrade parts that are tagged/sealed and let the gifted drivers get the best from it. You can do away with things like data loggers by insisting everyone runs a restrictor just before the plenum to limit the outright airflow hence bhp. I still don't know why a v8 chim can't run in class C of the tvr race series when there's so many chims out there and no-one is in class c this year. Seems an obvious home for them to me.
To be fair i mentioned something along these lines a few years ago and got shot down in flames, by i think you graham!
For me if i was to run a series i would base it on an old series called the slick 50 road saloons, these cars other than a cage, steering wheel, shocks and springs, and exhaust system, not manifolds had to look standard and be driven to the race meeting, the whole idea was a low cost way of going racing, and when i sy the grids where big they where big, at some events you had qualifying races to get into the final race,
so 3 classes, class 3 upto 4.2 litres, class 2 upto 4.7 litres class 1 open capacity, the car has to look standard, road going tyres no tripple 888's etc, basically so the average guy that does a track day here and there can go and race his car and have a possibillity to win

We did try to open it up to v8s once but the regs were not tight enough and we ended up with very specifically tuned cars to meet the regs but not the spirit. It didn't help that the one entrant that was going to build a road racer got written off on the road so ended up as a full racer in the class above, also chim prices have come down a bit more.
The successful series that use the idea are mx 5 and boxter
Using a controlled kit BMW compact is trying the same thing.
I still don't know if if would fly hence floating the idea again.
Just allowing v8's in c is a different question.
Being a chimaera owner I'd like to see more of them racing, indeed ive been helping one chap with his.
It's a basic numbers game really if enough people are interested it would be worth a bit more work,
