Hi,

I have, fairly recently, bought a 1996 M3 Evo Saloon. Didn't quite mean to buy it but was too good (46,000 miles, un-crashed) and too cheap (would rather not say!) not to buy!

When I got the car, it had a set Kumho Ecstas and the rears were, well, bald. I put a pair on the rear as the tyre shop had them in stock and the car is a daily driver. Having done a couple of thousand miles on them, I can't really get on with them. Too noisy and, seemingly, devoid of grip in the wet.

What does anyone recommend for the E36? I have always had ContiSports on my 911 but those in the correct size for the M3 (225/17 & 245/17) seem to be Mercedes-spec. All opinions welcomed; I don't really care what they cost, merely want whetever is best.

Its got to be Michelin Pilot Sport 3 or Goodyear Eagle F1 or Pirelli PZero or Continentals. Check Camskill

I had Michelin Pilot Sport's on mine but just changed to Continental Contact's. I decided to go for these as they had slightly better reviews for wet handling.
Very good, both types.

Mine wears (and only ever will do) Michelin Pilot Sport's. The car came from the factory with them on so they must be more than good enough for me. smile

I've run mine on Michelin (good grip, but hard as nails, so last forever but the comforts not great), Dunlop (better grip than Michs, softer, better ride over the tyre life, wear faster though) & Goodyear (good grip, ride as per Dunlop, seem to wear OK).

I'm on the case; looks like it will be Sport Contact 3s or Pilot Sport 3s

Many thanks to all.

I've got mine on Conti SC3s. When I bought the fronts they were a good margin cheaper than the equivalent PS3s.

I'm kicking myself now though as on Costco's recent offer PS3s came out at £420 for 4, fitted...

I've tried quite a few on my Evo, Kumho's, Toyo's, Dunlop and Conti's. Currently rolling on some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's and they're bleeding superb! Tons of grip, very progressive on the limit and mysterously seem to have more grip in the wet than the dry!

Well, they don't obviously... think its just the extra feel you get from them. Really sharpens up the turn in too

About £100 for the front, £140 for the back mind... but worth it. Can't recommend them highly enough.
