Idle slowly settles

Hi

67 Sunbeam Alpine on twin Strombergs. The idle drops to 1500 rpm and then takes a few seconds to drop to 900 rpm. Is this a rich mixture?

Possibly, but there are other things to consider.
Do the pistons rise and fall easily (if you remove air filter and oil damper/plunger and lift the piston with your finger, engine off). They should drop into the rest position easily with a satisfying clunk. If not the jets may need to be centralised, which isn't difficult.
I'd test that first.
