ok coming home from work I exit a round about at exactly 40 mph and give the car the beans as the road is a private ( cough!) road and I measure the speed I am going at a certain point lamp post.

car number 1 chimaera 4.5, induction kit, tornado chip. got from 40 to 85 in the alloted distance, however tried this again in my re-mapped 2007 golf gti, and it bet the TVR by 10 mph ? I reckon the distance is 500 yards.

my golf is remapped to just under 250 bhp, 260 torque and weighs 1330 kg approx, TVR should have 265 bhp at least and lets say 300 torque, and only weighs 1060 Kg,,,,, so what is going on. I have mentioned the TVR has a hesitation/ stutter thing going on and im going to try to sort that out but in the hope of not being crucified I was expecting the chim to be quicker, everything says it should be.
Both cars exited bend in 2nd and went to 3rd, now I admit the change in the golf is quicker but still,, suprising result. Not such a big deal as I love the Chim but suprised me.

I tried the same thing last night!

My Chim is a std 400 & my GTI is a std 200 AFAIK!

I can hit the same speed in same distance in both cars & my RX8 was the same too!

I think I back off first in the TVR as I'm about to hit a set of sharp corners!

I'll have to find a similar benchmark on a straight road :-)

Like you, I love the Chim too & certainly to blast past cars it feels quicker than the Gti, although its probably 250+kg lighter and more power!

Would def recommend gti remap, had mine done by Rtech in Leicestershire. Drives the same, no lag, just sooo much quicker at every point.

Slightly off topic, but is that their own remap or a Revo one?
How was your insurance effected too?

There own map, +41bhp +59 ft/lb £250. Full rolling road session not just plug and play etc. Guy called nick very thorough, changed divertor valve (£20) for uprated one. Insurance , directline forget it, phoned before had with hypothetical question, go with specialist, Adrian flux etc, not much more than normal (+£50~).car had map at 40k, now on 61 not missed a beat.

sorry Tvr chaps shut up about Vw now smile

OP, you want to see the torque curves - see how the torque values compare at different revs. (turbos can provide higher torque lower down dependant on mapping)

Also compare gearing - long/short gears - when you drop a gear, where are you in the rev range (giving what torque values?)...

Also - wheel slip aside, if you have an issue with the Chim, may not be producing what you think it is...

But overall - yes, the power/weight & torque/weight ratios should be much higher in the Chim... confused

Robert - couple points

Aside from your stutter/hesitation which you need to sort out asap, TVR did overstate the power somewhat on pretty much all models.

Also, the speedos in these cars are notoriously unreliable when - especially when you get up above 60/70 - mine over reads by 11 mph after 60. If you have a road angel or similar you can check it that way (if it's quick enough to respond) or you can get out on a private motorway with someone driving the golf and both do the same speed and note what each one reads. I'd bet the chim is under reading slightly (or perhaps the golf is over reading!)

Is the GTI DSG? - you lose a chunck of time in the gearshift...

I'd check to see what your 450 is really making...my std 500 makes 260...265 sounds maybe a little high even with mods??

Put 220-240 against turbo'd 250 and it might help explain it somewhat...

Fair point, after driving the chim, the golf feels sooo dull compared to the tvr. I keep kicking the clutch pedal through the floor in the golf, after driving the tvr. Love it!
