I have a 997.2 GT3RS and need to replace the tyres. I have a brand new set of michelins but now need to decide who I ask to fit them. I am concerned that most tyre dealers won't have experience of the centre lock mechanisms or a big enough torque wrench to do the job properly. Has anyone any experience of using independent tyre dealers with these wheels particularly in the Berkshire / Oxfordshire area?

Any help really appreciated.

Thanks

Why risk it? You're probably not far from OPC Reading.

They wont have torque wrench or know how to do it. I wouldn't risk it - very easy to get the locking mechanism wrong. Also easy if done properly. My OPC fitted a set off Michelins I delivered for £46 + VAT I seem to recall, which I was very happy with.

Don't risk it...and god forbid if wheel falls off they're (OPC) then the only place that have touched them and this gives me some extra comfort.

OPC or a decent Indy only IMHO. With the right tools I would do it myself but I haven't yet invested (I've done it before under supervision, but if I weren't confident that someone had been instructed in the drill I wouldn't let them near my car).

Haha...You could follow up the visit to a Motorsport outfit with a nice letter to PAG enquiring why their centerlocks look nothing like the road ones.
If one had a lot of spare time it would be fun to do it and see what came back smile

OPC or learn to do it yourself.

I used Fearnsport at Silverstone loads of times with no probs.

Also, blackboots in Chesham, Bucks have done centrelocks for me numerous times too.

A good Indy cost me £46 torqued the wheels properly and copper slipped where to alloy touches the brake disc to permit easy removal in the future. A Indy that cost £32 scratched my alloys and even paying by credit card somehow resulted in me paying to recify the problem caused. Experience variable then.

Opc swindon have a good rep, so if definitely know a good Indy that can deal with centre lock wheels go for it, otherwise given the minimal price difference i'd personally go for a good opc. You usually get to drive/look at a new 991 - I certainly did the last time I visited.

Update: Thanks for the advice here everyone. Porsche Reading did the tyres I supplied this morning - 60 minute wait, free bacon butty and (amazingly) cheaper than the indies I talked to. Difficult to complain ready!

Thanks again.
