Chartreuse...

Anyone else a fan? This is probably my favourite drink of all time. Personally I like the green one, straight up, chilled with ice.

Anyone else got a bit of a thing for slightly unusual liquors or spirits?

I would welcome any recommendations.

I have one. Benedictine. Try it if you haven't neat over ice or with Brandy. My word it's complex, but good.

Others would be good old Drambuie and Cointreau.

There's a French aperitif I like called 'Suze'. it's made from gentian (a bit like dandelion) and is incredibly bitter.

Sets one up for a gastronomic feast like nothing else

I saw on a programme that 2/3 of the Benny drunk in the UK is drunk in Burnley.

I remember that bottle.... Last time I drank that god awful stuff was at Uni, and I threw up. After getting hassled to drink a shot that night in Wales, I gave in, drank it to shut you all up, and threw up within 60 seconds. Never again!!!!

I remember the first time I had one of those, some chap ordered me one as a forfeit in a game of Spoof.

My opinion was something along the lines of "Well, I've got off lightly with thi.....OH MY GOD IT'S FOUL!!!!!"

Still to this day it is the drink we all dread.........

Really? Is that perhaps a regional thing? I first discovered it in the Lot, where it seemed to be the default aperitif of choice.

I reckon it probably is actually. The ex's parents had a bottle and they forced it on me once, it was quite amusing as the rest of her extended family were all pulling yacking faces as I sipped it.

Once got served some by friends in the Ardeche. I think there may possibly have been an element of "make fun of the foreigners" to it. Horrid stuff.

Big fan of Campari though...
