Rover SD1. The original is not a thing of beauty though. I tried some cheap aftermarket ones and had the same problem, they all come loose after a while. i then shelled out for a proper Momo one ( http://www.momo-uk.co.uk/momo-gearshift%20knobs.ht... ) and although it's still a universal fitment it's never moved.
OK. I too have an aftermarket aluminium knob. (gear stick). and it used to work loose every now and then, until I found the solution as follows:-
Cut a piece of rubber tubing roughly the same size as the knob bore. Undo the three screws that holds the knob in place and put the ring with the three screws on the gears stick stem ready for placing on the bottom of the knob once the knob is in place. Push the rubber tube into the base of the knob and cut it flush with the knob bottom. Now try the knob on the gear stick. If it is still loose, and it probably will be, wrap the gear stick threaded end with black insulating tape to the point that when you start tightening the knob with the rubber tube in place, onto the gear stick threaded end with the black insulating tape, the fitting must be SO tight, that great effort is required to screw the knob onto the gear stick. Once screwed on, place the bottom ring onto the base of the knob and now tighten the three securing screws.
I did this on mine and it has never moved out of position again, let alone work loose.
