I did say it was boring...

To cut a long story short, when we had our little boy I bought my wife a previous but late ish generation focus, she loves it and I have to admit that it really is a good car in most respects, hell I'd even admit to enjoying driving it wink

I'm in Spain right now and have as a hire car the latest generation focus, I was under the impression that they tended to get bigger with the next generation as a kind of automotive trait.

Not so, this boy is much smaller inside everywhere and I reckon it's actually a bit heavier, very fuel efficient though and a damn sight quieter but there genuinely is nowhere near as much space inside which kind of goes against the way it has always been IMO.

On the plus side it corners really well.

My wife had a 2004 Mk1, then in 2009 she upgraded to a new Mk2, and then got a new model in September last year.

The Mk1 (now my son's) remains the best to drive. The new car is the best built, most comfortable, and quietest by a huge margin and the only criticism I have is that the steering feels a little vague.

I honestly can't say I've noticed the new car being smaller inside than either of the two previous ones and, for the first time, I would be happy to have one myself.

The C346 is no larger than the C307. The C346 feels smaller inside mainly due to the massive IP.

After reading reviews that stated the C346 doesn't handle as well as its older sibling I wasn't expecting much but when I finally got around to driving one - with the 1.0 Turbo too - I was pleasantly surprised.

(yes I'm using codes fk you)

Knob. wink

You can only do that for BMWs, Mercs, Hondas and Porsche 911s.

Sightly related to this, a friend of mine has had back to back Astra estates and it seems the new one is smaller inside....mainly due to the size/thickness of the doors.

I parked a new focus next to my volvo the other day and it seemed massive but then inside it seemed quite small, apart from being a fair bit higher.

They look bloody massive? Parked the Escort next to one, wish I'd got a picture. I'll try to get one to illustrate the difference!

A colleague has the new C-max (I presume same platform?) which is bloody comfortable.

"IP" you say? Yes, I could see it being the IP. IP can have an enormous impact on interior space. Absolutely.

What's IP?

I've done about 10k miles in various 1.6d new focus.

Can't say I'm a huge fan, they drive ok but the interior is naff and ride a bit crashy.

Huge panel gaps too, you can get your small finger into lots of them. Plus I've only ever got 50mpg from them, despite sticking to 70 on the motorway. How can it have so little power yet still return no more mpg than an old 2.2 model or d5 Volvo?

Yeah they do look big but I'm pretty sure after using it back to back with our 2009 model it's no bigger and the space seems less useable for our needs anyway.

Hired a new C max as well, I liked that.

Instrument Panel....aka dashboard.

I've been in the automotive industry too long already.
