The decision has obviously been made to carry on with this "improvement" regardless, fair enough your website, your choice.

But can someone please explain why my phone number is being displayed by default when I don't want it to be? I wish to be contacted by e-mail only, as has been possible to do on adverts here from the day one. Surely it should be my choice as to whether I want to put my own phone number on display to the public or not, not yours?

What happened to privacy?

You don't have to display your actual number, you can keep privacy by using Phonesafe, and our experience would suggest that when you do use it, most people use email to contact you anyway.

However we want advertisers to include a phone number because it is one way of discouraging scammers. Not the best weapon we have, but one of them.

Doesnt it make your phone number available to scammers and google search your phone number links to the ad for x years?
Or is that blocked somehow?
go for phonesafe

Would it not be worth having some sort of warning come up to tell people their number will be displayed when Phonesafe is disabled? Had I known that I would not have bothered you.

Yes it would. A good (and blindingly obvious really) suggestion. Thank you.
