Petrol leak!!...
Discussion
Hi Peeps..well i have found the source of my raw petrol smell at long last...The breather pipe fitting coming off of the tank has popped out of the solder..(Just like the rad overflow did) and i have had to chop a small amount of fibreglass out around it, I have managed to tap it back in tight and use some JB cold weld on it...I just hope it goes off properly otherwise i will have to get some Loctite leak fix..Or worst case scenario its a tank out job and some solder..Fingers crossed..Cheers...Ziga
Hi Peeps..Well the JB weld didnt go off as hard as it should of but it was enough to get the pipe back on, I went to howlfrauds to get some Loctite leak fix but the guy in there advised me not to use it as its only a temporary fix, He recommended Pro seal tank repair putty which will be more of a permanent fix but unfortunately they dont sell it even though he has been asking for them to stock it..The strange thing is even with the little bit of JB weld which has cut down on the amount of fuel evaporating the car feels faster???..I know leaks do affect the running but surely not that much...Cheers...Ziga

Sorry to hear Mark, whats the plan off action mate, you removing the tank? and the better running could be due to less air getting into the system mate and if you need a hand, just give me a shout, am happy to help if poss, cheers RalphHi Ralph...Thanks for the offer of help mate..I have cut away a bit of the fibreglass above the tank so its a bit more accessible to the fittings..I shall be getting some of the pro seal putty as its easier to manage and manipulate around the pipe so hopefully it shouldnt be too much drama...Cheers..Ziga

Hi peeps...well the pro seal epoxy putty did the job around the breather pipe but i can still smell raw petrol albeit further down in the tank recess...I cant see any dripping and its only when i turn left so im thinking maybe its one of the hoses in between the tanks..The 2" part that joins the two tanks is the crappy steel helix shyte and im betting its that,I can smell it round the rear N/S as well but thought it to be the breather pipe but thinking about it it could be splashing around and then leaking fumes underneath then the gases are travelling along the underside of the tanks and coming up at each end.. I have booked it into Dan taylor to have all the petrol pipe replaced as i have a reel of 5/8 and just under a metre of 2" x 51mm fluorosilicone hose...The things we do for love...
