After the considerable amount of spleens that have been vented against the antics of truckers, I think some focus should be given to what is (IMO) the scourge of the roads during the summer and probably my number one annoyance (although the South West is a magnet for the bloody things). At least trucks have a pretty much essential part to play in the running of the country. Caravans owners appear to belive their purpose in life is to drag a large and fragile aluminium box on wheels, as slowly as possible down the least suitable roads possible. Bonus points given for grossly overloading both the caravan and the tow car, running on a set of badly cracked crossply tyres made in 1964, and getting the whole shebang into an unrecoverable tank slapper (utimately resulting in a shower of aluminium, carboard and wood being spread accross the road.)

OK so that is a huge generalisation, and I'm sure there are some very responsible owners who do their best to avoid holding up traffic. Trouble is I haven't met that type yet.

Nor me

Caravans should be made to pay 4x the road tax for the chaos they cause and only be allowed to drive between 2am and 6am so they dont inconvenience anyone.

I spend most weekends in west wales where the last 35-40 miles of journey is narrow 1 lane each way road with lots of bends and no real passing places. IF theres only 1 or 2 in front you can pick them off. Usually you find 4 or 5 of them with about 100 cars tailing back stuck behind them making it impossible to get past.

(Did i mention how much i hate caravans yet?)
