my wife works for the MOD and the base she works at is due to close by next March. There have already acouple of VERS but the powers that be seem intent on muddying the waters for those remaining. In short they will not commit to any redundancy package and everyone is becoming very concerned that they are trying to duck their obligations. The meetings have offered no information and the Union Rep is hopeless
Can anyone point me to somewhere I can get some hard and fast info pleaseAs a civil servant (?) working or the MOD, there are pretty fixed rules, such that no one should feel like a fast one is being pulled. Lots of factors to consider however; was she eligible for VERS; did he apply but not get it; is she a mobile grade; is she willing to go in to the redeployment pool etc, etc? I'd get her to speak to her Line Manager with some pretty basic questions like:
What are the plans if the base closes?
How does that affect me?
Do I have to do anything now?
Good luck!

The plans for the base are not being told to the likes of us.
The way it affects me is I will be out of work or put in the RDP whenever they decide to do it. We are being asked what we want to do i.e. RDP, Voluntary Redundancy or Compulsary Redundancy if they go down that road, they told us it has not been decided yet and would take up to 18 months to do. This is without telling us which would be the best for each person.
They are asking everyone at the moment to fill in a questionaire whether they want VERS, RDP, VR or CR but, without knowing what would be they best for each person people are saying that they cannot decide. When asked if there is such a person to ask, we were told to ring DBS (HR) and they should be able to give you a rough figure. Everytime you call DBS you get a different answer.
It is so frustrating
