What is the fastest car on the road ?

Last week I was at a steady 173mph on the autobahn and guess what came past me at 173.1mph ? Yep, you guessed it, an Audi A3. I think it was a TDI diesel, certainly wasn't a fancy one.

So there you have it, the fastest car on the road. It doesn't matter what speed you're doing or how many Veyrons you have welded together or even if you drive a 2012 Ferrari F2004 tuned by underground racing with hex-tuplet blowers, an Audi A3 *WILL* be up your chuff at some point.

Am I missing something? An A3 can't do 170mph. An RS3 probably can't.

Cool, I'm getting one then - looks like a bargain £/bhp.

There was probably a Merc Sprinter with a ladder on its roof tailgating the A3

CAR say an RS3 will top out at 175 if the restrictor is removed.

You know that bit on Burp TV where the sausage roll and the pizza have a fight as there's 'only one way to find out' ? You do know that that's not a real sausuage roll don't you ? And not a real pizza either I might add. And you do realise that they are not really having a fight .... it's like made up, pretend, you know, just for TV ?

Imagine after it was remapped.

That seems to ring a bell, an article from about 20 years ago. I suppose this is the updated version smile

Really?
Wow that is a very special A3.

You should advise potential RS3 owners who will opt for the de limit to save £20k and just buy the boffo diesel of the range as it will be just as quick.

Heckrember the Lotus Carlton that only did 178mph or the E34 M5 or the 993/996 Carrera 2 both nullified by the 2ltr diesel

The truth of the matter is that apart from the autobahn or some quiet bits of the motorway network the fastest car on the road is the one driven by the driver with the heaviest right foot.

I take it this was an indicated speed? So it could have been 155mph?

The autobahn is a funny place to be.

I was hitting the limiter in fith, thinking I was schumy, and there is a porsche waiting patiently behind me. I was pretty shocked, but then again I don't suppose it was even stretching its legs.

The type of vehicle most likely to be breaking the speed limit on a UK motorway?

That would be a light commercial / car-derived van weighing under 3.5 tons, according to a 2011 DfT document posted in S,P and L a few weeks ago.

Which road?

If it's my road Manor Avenue then it's my car.

If it's anybody else's on here (apart from a couple of my Brothers) then I don't know.

OP which is the fastest on your road?
