Help me choose a paint colour for my Restoration
Discussion
Hi,
Have rebuilt my Marcos car from scratch over a very long 4 years and now have the most important decision to make that can make or break this project, the car colour.
The car has been silver since its birth in 1985 and has some history in the Marcos world as it is a special lightweight version and was John Eales track car for its first 10 years before it was road registered so on one hand i think i should keep it silver with gold wheels however there are so many silver colours about, i also like aston Martin quantum silver which i think will show off the curves of the car, or do i go extreme as i love lime green or burnt orange but do not think these colours will suit the classic car shape as they go better with more modern cars, or do i go with two shades of colours.
Please help me make the right decision as its driving me nuts and with the cost involved need to get it right first time.
A few photo's to show,
Regards,
Martyn....

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, reds are nice but there are lots of red Marcos cars about already.
I think i have decided to keep to a similiar theme to silver, the wheels are off and with new tyres about to be fitted are going to get the wheels powdercoated gold so in keeping with the silver theme i just have to choose a shade from light silver to the more darker titanium/ greyish shade, have seen some lovely Aston Martin silver colours about but really need to get to a showroom to look at them in greater detail,
So which shade of silver ?
Martyn
P.S. I still love lime green but just have not got the b***s to go for it.

If you're going to keep it silver, I'd stick to the original Marcos colour for originality sake.
There are some vey nice Aston silver/grey colours, but even looking at other cars in a specific colour doesn't help as much as you might think, since the shape of the car really makes a difference as to how the colour looks. On my Cobra replica, I spent ages agonising over the colour and, after deciding swatches were useless, paid many visits to car showrooms deciding on a particular shade. Once the car was painted, it ended-up looking quite a bit lighter than I anticipated as the body is just so curvy and reflects the light a lot more, making it look a lighter shade. As the Marcos is similarly curvy, you may find the same.
