Is this a stolen logo?

Looking at the pistons, there's no way that the logo for this company didn't use the PH pistons and IIRC yertis designed the logo so it's not a stock design.

The way the rod cap is offset to the crank shaft suggests they stole it from here and flipped it vertically

Is it a registered trade mark? "Pistonheads" and "Speed Matters" are owned by Haymarket, but has the logo got the same protection (assuming the 'copy' in this thread is similar enough to warrant a letter from Lewis Silkin...

I was just about to come into this forum and ask a very similar question!

A friend of mine who knows nothing of pistonheads (and has a slight sticker fetish) has recently added a dodgy resized copy of the official PH logo. Said he bought it on eBay, had a quick look and found these;

There's also another one which is quite popular up here with the Corsa crew, can't find it on ebay at the moment, but it's basically the same smiley face but as if it has 2 middle fingers sticking out at an angle from either side. It's quite annoying that after getting quite excited spotting what I thought to be another PH'er, only to give them a wave and be greeted by confusion.

ETA; Vince, I know your comment was meant in jest, but might be an idea to "unquote" that as to avoid diverting any business from PH and SDITH?

I thin you'll find that the smiley mentionedin the ebay ads was around before pistonheads used it. The crossed pistons howevere are a clear rip off!

I'd assume because the smiley face isn't copyright. PH didn't create it. The pistons are the issue here.

Well, similar designs to the PH logo are really quite common, as you can see, and have been in use for at least 58 years! If a design incorporating the smilie face but omitting the crossed pistons is deemed OK, I don't think anyone can claim that the use of two similar yet different stylised pistols infringes any PH copyright.

It's not a 'copyright' issue, it's whether the crossed pistons device is a registered trademark (or not).
