I worked at a Land Rover dealership for 6months. Overall the Freelander 2 is one of their better cars, but that's REALLY not saying a lot!

A word of warning, assuming it's the 2.2diesel, request an inspection of the rear main oil seal. They are prone to leaking and in my experience, even replacement never fully rectifies the issue. Have them remove the floor tray and check for any sign of oil between the sump and the gearbox bell housing - it's roughly a 9hour job...something you could really do without paying for down the line!

Check for noisy power steering - there's a technical bulletin out about noise from PAS systems and if cleaning out the filter in the rack, draining the system with 5litres of fluid doesn't rectify the noise, a new rack is required (often mis-diagnosed as a faulty PAS pump). I've replaced 4 steering racks on Freelander 2's myself, though 3 were in warranty so a 2007 model
might be OK.

An almost certainty is the rear diff pinion bearing groaning. If caught early enough it's not too bad...They tend to be noisy at lower speeds, between 15-40mph.

Can't remember if the 07 model will have the Haldex rear diff. pump...from memory I think they all do. I've never replaced one myself, but have seen 5-6 replaced at my last place of work.

Centre prop-shaft bearings/mount can wear prematurely. Check for up and down play in the prop=shaft.

Rear diff output seals can weep, very rarely have I seen one that is LEAKING, but may be useful to inspect them just in case.

Seat frames can crack, check for any free-play in the drivers seat. The welds on the rear height control can fail...you tend to get most "play" when the seat is just above the lowest height setting (electric ones aren't affected in my experience).

As said, that's just off the top of my head for now, check for usual track rod end/steering arm play but typically they're quite robust underneath - other than what I've listed.

HTH
