God that Ferrari is spectacular... Though I would be happy with a 550 Maranello for 15% of the cost!

730bhp is rather unnecessary and requires amazing electrons just to get that power down and keep it on the road.

The 310 with 565bhp (reasonable to assume over 600bhp+ with a future BR exhaust system..?) would be more than enough and just as quick in the hands of mere mortals like me.

So now we're waiting for Jag's version, then we'll see Hyundai's version, and eventually Renault's version!

Ferrari really have an amazing ability to make the successive model look much worse than the one it replaces. They've managed to do it with the 355-360-430-458, the 456-612-FF and the 550/575-599-F12. I wonder if they will ever make a beautiful car again?

Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder... But I agree with you, the aerodynmacists are in charge of the sketch pad these days.

The Calaifornia >could< have been the beauty as it didn't have to be the no-compromise sports car, it's a boulevardier. However, turns out its not that pretty but still incredibly fast. Guess that's what you get from Ferrari. Want beauty? Aston or Maserati are about it. Jags are looking good too.

Well they seem to be struggling to create a design that's even pleasant to look at, let along beautiful! The last good looking Ferraris imo were the 550/575 and the 355. The 360 CS looks alright too.

As for Jags - have you seen that new XK-RS?! Utterly hideous, looks like it's been driven through Halfords. As Mr. G says, they're a poor man's Aston smile

The problem is though, which Aston could keep up with it ?
I like it, its a shame they lose so much money. It is also a very good car from what i hear.

According to this, it's very close between the Jag and the DBS. The Jag may be more powerful but is also almost 200kg heavier.

Mine wink

Anyone can bolt forced induction onto anything, classical automotive engineering prowess lies in naturally aspirated engines with their linear delivery and lovely noise. Look at Ferrari (F40 excepted which was a for racing reasons) and Lamborghini (don't look at Porsche or it spoils my analogy!)

Forced induction is the cheap route to power or the only route to obscene power and has its place of course; the new McLaren and most Hypercars. But a chavved up Jag against a lovely old-school V12? Bah humbug, I'll take the less powerful normally aspirated engine please.

I had a good look at the XKRS Rob & Molly drove when EVO tested their Vantage S earlier in the year.
Amazing performance (because of the supercharger and active suspension)
Awful build quality, styling and cosmetics (Plastic fake CF inlay in leather seats rolleyes )

I also went to the Launch/Driving day of the 500 BHP XKR at Gaydon
They really are VERY capable cars

I've had 2 Astons since though wink
I'd like to see a reliable well engineered (to my expecatations wink ) super charger solution for the V8V
But I know serveral have tired and not really achieved it.
Hence why I favour Bamfords route to power.
I'm not a purist like Lewis, it's all about the reliability for me smile

That F12 does look interesting though confused

Not sure if my 'purist' thing just makes me backwards though smile Fast cars have ebnclosed bodywork, turbos and robotic manuals, no doubt about it.

But I want three pedals, a normally aspirated V8/V12 and the roof off, that's where the fun lies for me smile

Oh Georgeous, you are such a girly drama queen.

Admittedly, most of us on this forum will prefer the look of the Aston, but you may be in a minority of people that would call the jag 'ugly' smile

Yes, exactly. Ferrari seen to want to compete with Nissan to make drivable track cars. I honestly couldn't care less, it's not about going as fast as possible through some corner for me, it's about having fun.

Fair play to those who do though. They can have their Ferrari / Nissan GTR / track car, as long as Aston don't go that way I'm happy.

It's all this front lip business that gets me. They're all at it. Soon we'll be driving around in what looks like a motorway pond of catfish cars...

They couldn't have made those little slot thingys on the side of the car look any more of an after thought could they? Looks like it's just been glued on when they realised the car looks too similar to the regular XKR.

Those vents, whilst they may have purpose, are ugly. Same with the ridiculous rear wing too. Don't even get me started on the front splitter!

If I posted up an unflattering matt Aston picture I'm sure I would receive the same reaction....we all have an off day wink

Nope, still don't agree that it's either hideous or ugly.

The vents should be black, as per my contrasting ethos.

Still prefer the Aston looks, mind you, just having difficulty with the adjectives smile

'Overstyled' would be my choice of adjective. I think they needed to differentiate from standard models as much as possible as it's so much more money than a standard Jag coupe. This was what they came up with rather than fabricate new body panels. Jag are a >ahem< budget company!

The fundamantal style of the car is sound of course being a Callum sketch. Shame you can't get the sleek lines of the XK8 with the nuttiness of that powerplant. Though I would imagine a standard XKR is powerful enough in 5.0SC form on that chassis, this was perhaps a step too far to grab headlines.
