I want to buy myself a really nice car now while I can afford one and enjoy it before I settle down with a house etc.

I have 10-15k to spend, would rather not spend all 15k but would if it was really special.

I don't really have a clue what I want.

requirements would be:

no more than 4 years old
no more than 30k miles
fastish (200bhp+)
not stupid mpg (25-30mpg with a heavy foot is fine but no less, more is a bonus)
not stupid tax (no more than £200 a year)
Insurance not really an issue
Don't necessarily need 4 seats but need a decent boot that I can put a springer spaniel in (so not a coupe with a sealed boot)
Not extortionate servicing costs
I want something that looks and feels a bit special, I like a nice interior.

Suggestions?

Does it HAVE to be modern???

If not hows abouts a TR6, you can put springer on passenger seat smile Or a Stag - dog can sit on back seat. smile

A Hawkeye Spec-c would fit most of your criteria, including the tax. Interior is actually much better on these as so far as colour and you'll have one of the best handling cars on the planet too.

No but neither does my MGB GT V8, driving an old car puts you in a different mindset anyway. However, the B shows many modern cars up due to the fact that compared the moderns it weighs nothing. Power / figures are not everything biggrin

OKies no worries smile

Can you buy a new style Dodge Challenger for £15k? Or how about a Z4M Coupe? smile (My knowledge on newer stuff is not really very good so don't have a clue on values)

30K miles is the stupid bit, would a 50K car be any different than a 30K car? or even a 60K car.

You could say a number of them are stupid, why under £200 when the next tax band up is only £215?

Its a personal preference, I am sure you have your own just like I do.

Don't think there are many that tick all the boxes unless you want a diesel but I can't imagine you would.

Sounds more like you want to buy a newish car rather than a special car?

If you want something with a bit of financial security look at more niche vehicles. They probably won't cost anymore to run, but will lose less money should you need to sell it. Sadly your age requirement sort of knocks this on the head.

BMW e30 M3 would seem to fit rather well otherwise.

Just bought myself a MINI Cooper S Clubman and it is excellent. Getting 36.8mpg over the first 3,000 miles driving like a moron. It pops it bangs it whistles and chuffs and it makes me smile every time I see it and drive it. You don't see many others about either.

Mine is 172hp, but you could get the new 184hp motor for your budget. Both have 192lbft of torque from 1700rpm so when you're not in the mood you can put it in 6th and leave it there.

It costs £135 a year to tax and if you buy one with the TLC pack you won't have to pay for servicing until it's 5 years/50k miles old. I honestly don't think you can get a better car for the money.

Well then fair enough. Out of interest, what don't you like about it?
