Is anyone running an SLK 250 petrol?.I have had one for about 6 months and like the car a lot, however there is what I can only describe as a high pitched whinning sound at low speeds, probably more noticeable when in manual mode. It disappears as speed increases.I have had it to my local BM dealer and hey say it's a "characteristic" of the engine but I am not convinced.
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

I have a new E-Class with the same engine in lower tune (E200 CGI petrol auto) and I think I know what you're referring to. Is it a whine that gets higher pitched the higher the car revs, most apparent in 1st and 2nd gears and especially so when setting of from cold first thing? And as the car hangs onto 1st gear longer when the engine is cold it sounds pretty horrible as the revs climb?

If so my car does that, as has every other modern 4 cylinder petrol Merc I've driven, so if it's that then I think it is just a characteristic of the engine/drivetrain you are hearing.

Is that what you are hearing?

That's exactly it.It actually sounds louder in sport and manual mode but disappears once the speed rises, it's probably a bit more pronounced in the SLK with it being a smaller car than the E class. At least I am not going mad, I thought it must be just me as I have never heard anyone else mention it in any of the road tests.

Thank you
