vehicle tracking advice.
Discussion
Hello Pistonheads, need some advice that can't be solved with the usual MX5 or crashing of back doors.
My boss needs a tracker fitted to his rather beautiful Jaguar XKR, due to the value of the car and it being on fleet.
Ironically we have a fleet of over 20 cars/vans with the latest navman wireless trackers that allow us pinpoint and study vehicle usage data; however this is far too much for what we need on the jaaaaaag.
SO anyone got any advice? Ideally want just a basic unit that meets the insurance (thatcham I assume) requirements and nothing else, in other words I don’t think he wants an electronic witness in the car, should his right foot have a bit of a frenzy.
can these be bought without an annual fee? Most of the ones I look at are between £150- £300 with an annual subscription which he isn’t keen on.
Thanks in advance guys and gals.

I'd be interested to know what the soltion was to this - paying chuffin anual subs gets tiresome!
Well just spoken to Simons mate James (very helpful) and it looks like there aren’t any without annual subs as you pay for the airtime and admin (owner details on the database etc)However the unit we spoke about can go from car to car, which is a bonus as usually once fitted that’s it and you have to fork out again.
I will say there is a gap in the market for a product you pay say, £500 up front, which includes fitting and tracking for the owners time with the vehicle. On sale or transfer you pay a small doc change fee. But alas nothing like that exists...

Last time I had the RAC Trackstar unit fitted they offered me a life-time sub for as long as I had the car. Broke even halfway through year 3 and then saved money after that.
Exactly, there has to be an annual fee to cover the running of the call centre which will locate your car if it's stolen. Some companies will offer a multi year bundle, or even to have a "duration of ownership" option. However I don't think there could ever be one which would allow you to transfer the unlimited subscription to the new owner, as effectively they'd have to support that until the car was finally retired for good. (I recognise that this is possible in theory if the original owner kept it its whole life, but that's rare which is why they allow it.)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
