Lead replacement additives?

Needing a quick/temporary answer please:

Collecting a Peugeot 504 coupe (see thread below) this week hopefully. It's not had a head conversion. 2 litre four pot engine. It'll be driven 150 miles. What do I need to put in the tank to get it home?
I know this topic might be a can of worms but looking for something safe. Head conversion will be tackled in the coming months.

Nothing - it'll be fine for those miles. If it really worries you then I use Castrol Valvemaster but any of the additives of that type should be fine (think the advice is to stick to the same type once you start using them).

Then if it doesn't need headwork doing you could leave it until it does.

I think that French cars in particular had pretty hardened valve seats, possibly due to the poor fuel in their French colonies, so you should be OK. If you can obtain the odd tankfull of unleaded, then this will also help (it doesn't need to have lead in every fill-up), since it coats the relevant components for a fair while. I used to use Millers VSP additive in my old Renault, but it used to fur up the spark plugs quite badly with a sort of sandy beige residue.

You don`t have to worry about valves and seats on old Peugeot`s,as they have X flow ally heads with very hard seat inserts.I used to work for Peugeot in the 70`s & 80`s and we never had valve or seat problems,in fact I don`t think I have ever seen a Peugeot with a burnt valve.Also my present classic is a 1964 404 injection which has basically the same engine.When I stripped the engine a few years ago I found the valves and seats were as good as new and just needed a quick lap.I`ve been running ever since on unleaded with the occasional dose of Castrol Valve Master.

Wouldn't worry about a lead additive... You might wanna consider something for the Ethanol when the EU has finished it's working directiove to increase the content of that from from 5 to 10%.

How many of us thought that chesnut had been put to bed until 2020.. EU strikes again!
