Does anyone happen to know what the difference between the steering wheel in the regular Vantage, the Vantage S and the V12 Vantage is ? (forgetting alcantara is standard in the V12V coupe as you can get V12V with a leather wheel)

Are they a different thickness of rim ? I assume the diameter is pretty much the same. I have an idea a V12 Coupe with leather wheel might have (some) perforated leather ?

I have a brand new V12V steering wheel that I'm hoping I can fit to my MY06 DB9 at some point to gain the cruise control function and can confirm that if does indeed have perforated leather.

The V8V one usually has perforated leather as well. The DB9 wheel is very boring by comparison frown

My V8S didnt but it was an early car with a few non standard bits of trim, like contrasting A pillar stitch

Thanks Pete for the confirmation

I've asked for both 12'0 clock and inside rim contrast stitching on my V12VR and they are saying that they can't do 12'0 clock at all (despite it being a NCO or cheap on V12s until recently) and for inside stitch, it will be £2k ! But for £500, they can give me a V8S wheel with inside rim stitching

I don't get it...........

I have had a V8V and two V12V's and I can pretty safely say the steering wheel itself is identical on both cars. However the quality of the leather used was significantly superior on the V12V (first one as my current V12V has alcantara). The leather was of the same quality and thickness as they seats / dash, whereas the leather on the V8V always felt thin and inferior quality to the seats / dash. Overall Im not sure the wheel actually felt thicker though.

How odd! My first V12V had 12'O clock contrast stitching in Silver to match the seats and dash - see pic below.

What even stranger is that my new V12V also has a 12'O clock stitch but its black and not red to match the stitching in the rest of the car. Maybe this option has indeed now been discontinued, but if they can do the stitch in black I really cant see why they couldnt do it in red. The only thing that springs to mind is that the Silver 12'O clock stitch in my first V12V did get a little grubby after 2 years of daily driving.

thanks that's really helpful

I think the answer is to go for the standard V12V wheel and I'll just keep pushing re: the coloured stitching - I think it looks spot on

I wonder if the new Vanquish wheel is compatable with the Vantage bar the vestigal suspension and launch control buttons?

Good question. I think I'm right in saying that since the launch cars that had a ONE 77 steering wheel, I've seen ONE 77 steering wheel is an option on Vanquish

WOW... I got the EXACT SAME answer from Q !!!

And it confused the hell out of me too. What's the difference between a V12V steering wheel and a V8S steering wheel???
I currently own both and apart from the alcantara, it's the same steering wheel.
And since they don't do alcantara on Roadsters anyway, what's left as the difference?

Blimey its all so complicated. I thought Q could do anything?? I noticed the 12 o'clock stitch in black on mine and thought it would look really nice in Silver on my R. Decided not to persue it though as I have already included inner stitch on the seats and I think it may be a stitch too far. Glad I didn't bother now.

Has anyone with an R on order gone for seat matching stitch on the carpets? I went for Silver stitch to match seats and just wondered if it might get dirty?

My problem is that until I sort the wheel, I don't know for sure about stitch colour and what I'm going to get in a contrast. But I am potentially going for silver stitch on the carpet - is there a cost to a contrast stitch ?

Just going backwards & forwards with my dealer & 'Q' at the mo - if they think something is doable, they give a quick price and often, it's not that unreasonable. I think the embroidered wings in the headrests for instance are about £695 the pair. Certainly not daft compared to the coloured callipers they hold in stock but now charge £995 for ! But if it doesn't quite suit them to do something, they won't quote, they just say no.....perhaps if you're a sheik customising a car for 100k it would be different but the middle ground is not nearly as flexible as they like you to think.

I don't get it. I think the inside stitching may be down to the fact the S comes with it as standard (in a non contrast) & V12V doesnt, but that doesnt explain the 12'0 clock stitch answer

No cost to contrast stitch the carpets.

thanks - at least there's another thing that's no cost !

Waiting to finalise steering wheel stitching before final signing off on spec, then can compare specs & costings !

Just out of interest, what's the 12 o'clock stitching for? Have seen it on certain performance cars (911 GT3) but I've never had it and never missed it. I seem to know when the front wheels are pointing forwards smile

Is it a drifting thing..?

It is a "straight ahead marker" to assist you in maintaing a perfect straight line when racing. I guess its so that you have a visual aid inside the cockpit that you are still going straight when you glance down at the dials.

No idea. There's a little dimple at 12 o'clock anyway on the steering wheel, so I don't really know why you would need the stitching.

Exactly. For me of course, as I'm not going motor racing, it's purely a cosmetic thing. But also, I'm not a fan of the colour coded steering wheels, especially as it's rare to find one on an Aston that's not two tone which I think looks messy. So it's a way to tie in the wheel with the rest of the interior through the stitching

What really upsets me however is that AM portray 'whatever you want at a cost', I have a pretty mundane request in the scheme of things and I'm just being told 'no' without even an explanantion - it's becoming something of a point of principle now..........

Any racer who either needs a line on the wheel or has the time to look at it should not be allowed out of the paddock

That may well be the case, but its the official reason I was given by Porsche when I enquired as to why the GT3RS had the same 12'O clock stripe.

I agree with Jonby, it just looks nice and ties in the steering wheel with the rest of the car better.
