website not working, keeps on saying running scripts making computer go slow

the search function for mileage still does not work properly
and when i last looked the pictures are not as good as the old one

the current website is THE BEST on the net, why change it when you don't need to
it is so easy, that is its sucess..

please listen as someone who has spent almost 1 million quid using your old website, if people like me decide to go back to using autotrader or other websites

The current classifieds is old, and wasn't designed to handle the amount of traffic it currently gets. You can use the Beta classifieds the same way as the current one. There are glitches in the Beta site, and they are being sorted.

I like the Beta classifieds as I don't know all the cars that matches the criteria that I have. In the old classifieds you can not search for cars by using criterias. That's how alot of people would look for cars, so it renders the old classifieds useless. If you have never browsed the old classifieds before you find it hard to search for cars, I know I did.

"Why change it when you don't need to?" - Erm, we do need change it in order to to keep up with the volume of traffic we get. We are using software to run this site that was released in 1998 - that's 14 years ago! So we've completely re-done the code of the website using the latest technologies to make it quicker and more reliable and then added more ways to search. And in doing all of this we haven't taken away any functionality. You can still browse around using makes / models and use keyword search just as you could in the old site.

The pictures are larger in the new site than the old site - in what way are they not as good as the old one?

And could you give me a specific example of mileage search not working properly so I can investigate and fix if needed?

Thanks,
-Matt

Been using it yesterday and today with no problems at all. A few cars on the old classified don't seem to show up on the new one but I know the chaps at PH Towers are aware of that. Huge fan of the search parameters though as it has thrown up a couple of options I would not have thought of. Old version is dated and assumed you knew the exact vehicle you are looking for. New one gives a little inspiration which I really like. I think its great and am sure the final release will be excellent. Old version is still there below it which can be great if you know what you want so really never seen why people seem to have an issue with the new one anyway.

Accept you need to change the Classifieds format, and I promise I've tried to get along with it but I still hate it. From this users point of view it's a massive step backwards.
Regardless, thanks for the facility.

If you scroll down on the new classifieds, you'll see you can use it just like the old classsifieds.

Care to elaborate? We love feedback, but we need more to go with other than "I still hate it."

On the other hand I adore the new drill down functionality. Porsche > Model > Engine Size > Transmission > Price Range > Trade or Private...

And there you have it, exactly the cars I'm interested in looking for. It's a huge improvement once any technical bugs are ironed out (I'm not aware how far the debugging has progressed as yet)

One thing that would be nice is left and right arrows (or perhaps swipe functionality on the iPad) to make navigation easier.

I think it's gonna be ace when it is fully debugged and populated smile

I'm not sure I follow. On the old search, you get the results in the same list style as the new site.

What do you mean by category list? Something like the models page? http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

Nevermind, I see what you're saying.

For now you'll have to go into the individual makes to see what's latest.

The layout and simplicity of the old format really appealed to me as I'm a 'browser' not a 'searcher' if you get what I mean. Rarely have a particular car in mind, just enjoy flicking through the simple menu, window shopping. Maybe when I need to use the classifieds properly to find the exact car I'll appriate the new features more.

Also appreciate I may not be your target audience and apologies if "I still hate it" sounded harsh - I should have said I much prefer the old layout.

At least I'll waste less time idly browsing PH classifieds at work now smile

I thought you could still do searches "the old way?"
The new classifieds just add to the "randomness " of what's suggested smile

Problem examples for matt dell

For example if I select Ferrari

Then you get the list as before of all models showing when latest cars were added
(this is all good, perhaps also it would be useful to have the number of cars in each subsection added on)

Then for example if I were to chose say 430 spider
And then wanted to sort by mileage as you can in the normal there is no mileage sort button

If somehow I have had the map view button clicked it crashes my computer of makes it go exceedingly slow and I get the message that it is running scripts and its making my computer go slow!!

Then say I wanted to look at another type of Ferrari how do you go back!!
It is so slow and cumbersome
On the old system there was a bar below the advert which enabled you to go back directly
Home>Classifieds>Ferrari>430 spider
All you have to do is just to click the Ferrari part in the above and you get back to all ferrari’s

I used Ferrari as there are some which have few items in the sort list.

Next if I try and click the picture, why does the picture have to remain inside the explorer window, unlike the old one which would pop out the pictures
Having the pictures inside the window, with the advert bar above, then the title below then the thumbnails below then finally the picture
It means that I can only see half the picture!! Then when I scroll it down I loose the clickable thumbs to change the pictures individually, so if you want it that way could you put the thumbs down the side of the picture as opposed to the top or allow the picture to be ‘poped out ‘ which I would prefer

Hopefully this constructive criticism will be useful

regards

its definately NOT like the old style:

the listings of the cars arent that clearly as before:

for example: even the price is printed in bigger letters than b4, it will not clearly jumnp into your eyes and it needs more effort and concentration to find the most important details.

the old webpage was easy, fast without any un-necessary things.

the design/layout isnt the reason not beeing able to cope with higher volume on traffic.

i agree with the above comment, basicaly i recon PH are changing it to allow more advertising spaces and thus more revinue, but hey i don't dissagree with that, its a good business model, BUT they must not alienate the buyers cos if they do then people will go elsewhere and once the buyers go away then the advertisers will stop advertising!

They're changing the classifieds, because the old one is struggling to handle the amount of traffic it gets. You can still use the new classifieds the same way as the old one.
