This block was originally the basis of a 4.6 with 4.0 pistons built for Paul (Brummmie), then passed on to Peter (Haircutmike) and then onto myself.
So its had a hard and intersting life and has produced excellent numbers along the way.
It now has a fresh set of top hat liners ready for the latest build....

The 500 heads have been cleaned up and the valves reseated.
I will be fitting my old inlet manifold which i am currently porting from 45mm and matching the 500 heads and will be topped with a fresh blended trumpet base (pics to follow when complete).
Just need some decent quality head gaskets and start botling back together.

Derek what are the benefits of blending the trumpet base?
There has always been a debate on trumpets, flared, shortened, carbon fibre etc.Taraka never bothered, just removed the trumpets and opened up the base to a taper into a ported inlet manifold. Peak horsepower was excellent with some losses in torque.
Another consideration in my case are that i leave nowhere for fuel to drop and collect that is injected with the nitrous before the throttle.
I use chemical metal to fill the voids around the base also.
I had my car dynoed with the blended base at Dales and torque was very good through the rev range and the car drove excellently NA.
Torque just shoots to silly levele anyway on nitrous on the dragstrip so if there are a few lost NA i would never notice.

Fit the mls gaskets, I have or rather rob did , stupid copper ones leaked
Andrew at Chesmans reckons they are a waste of money. He recommended Elring composites
Elring are considered to be a very good gasket brand in the motor trade
looks nice Derek happy building

As usual I find myself busy with stuff that wasnt on the initial job list.
I have ported my own inlet manifold so the one that came off this engine is on fleabay to make some funds for bearings, gaskets etc.
Its a very nice manifold, 45mm ported properly all the way to large ports

I'd heard that it was something not to do.
Worked for Taraka. The engine came with the trumpets removed and the base blended into a 44mm ported inlet manifold.
With the typhoon cam and megasquirt gave me 275 bhp @ wheels and a nice flat torque curve so i am happy with it. Also i prefer it for an uniterupted route for the extra fuel and nitrous i inject before the throttle.
Here's the thread:

Swings and roundabouts it would seem, but as pointed anything is an improvement over the standard straight tubes.
