Engine Hot Soak
Discussion
Hello all,
Was out the other day in my Tuscan. Was a wonderful day, id say about 20degrees.
After some motorway and town driving followed by some parking manovours I noticed the water temp creeping up. Low and behold the fan kicks in at the correct temp.
However just as they did I turned the engine off, Now my thinking was the fans will keep running to stop the heat soak..... but they just stop with the engine.
I sat watching the temp rise and rise upto 100!!
Cant help but think would it not be good to keep the fans running for some time after your switch the engine off?
Im unsure if there is any benifit or maybe everyone elses car does and mine just feels like not doing that.
Look forward to hear your thoughts.

I leave my cerb at tick over for 2-3 mins if it is hot as you need flow in the water system to cool as well it will drop by around 5-6 degrees by doing this then i switch it off. If i am putting it away for the night i leave the bonnet up as well to let the heat out ( I know a problem for some of you guys with out the bonnet mod) but i guess it helps a little.
100 is impressive, spent a few days in Italy, in heavy traffic and temperature well over 35 and the max I got was 97!
Putting the car in the shade does the trick, if you are really worried, take the bonnet off too
Seriously though I wouldn't worry with temperatures in the likes of 20.

I have a similar thing. Quick motorway driving, followed by spirited A roads, then pulling up to traffic lights for a min see's the temp rise and the fans kick in. They even kick in off and on after pulling away from the lights. It's not until you go about 30 mph or over there's enough air flow to bring the temp right down.
Saying that iv sat in the queue for the dartford tunnel for 20 mins and its never gone above 95.

Thanks for your replies,
Interesting to hear what your cars are reading.
I can only guess its a personality of the car. Next time its out I will have a look to really see what happens at traffic lights etc
I always let it cool before putting it away, but being a tuscan I can't easily open the bonnet to help it cool. But as you say don't think any problems can come from it.
