Hi all

After watching a good chunk of the Olympics over the last few days and seeing the torch relay last month, I can't help but notice the whole raft of 3 & 5 series BMW's that are being used as support vehicles. In all shapes by the look of it.

I'm currently considering my options for my daily work hack and a used 3/ 5 might be an option. So, is anyone in the know about these? I assume:-

  • They are provided by BMW under some sponsorship scheme
  • They have been taxed and UK registered, so must be sold second hand
  • They are all going to flood onto the market at once
  • They will likely be poverty spec
  • They have spent (almost) their entire early life being driven under 30mph!
So, pray tell me PistonHeads, will I be able to rock up at a BCA one day in September and choose from about 2000 lightly used BMW's?

I imagine they'll turn up as "ex demo" at your local dealer, with the stickers pulled off.

I was thinking the same - what's going to happen to them.

BMW hold closed auctions at BCA. I think they will be sold there to BMW dealers and then put on the market in dribs and drabs as they want to maintain their status.

It will be worth noting a few VRNs to see what happens to them. Here's a few numbers to check in the future

YE12 CWT
YE12 AVD
YC12 FXZ
YG12 XVX
YE12 BNA
YE12 DLJ
YC12 ELX

All E90 so previous model shape too, if they're all RHD there could be some bargain AUCs to be had in a few months.

The Estates are all old style, the saloons are all new style I think. The estates are 318d's too, or atleast some are, judging by the road race I was watching...

Judging by the one who came steaming past me on the M60, they aren't all doing under 30!

I spoke to one of the drivers the other week when he was driving me about in one of the 3 series
He said most of them were going back to BMW, so yes I'd imagine they will end up on a forecourt as 'nearly new'

For whoever asked yes they are all RHD
