Running cost

I'm looking at getting either a Cerbera or a Chimaera, Cerby owners reckon about £3~4000 a year running costs, what would you experienced Chimaera owners reckon for a Chim?

How much would you be spending on a Chim?
4.0 / 4.3 / 4.5 / 5.0?
How many miles are you going to do?
Is it a daily driver?
Are you planning on regular track days?

Without any info, based on 6k pa I would say around £1000-1500pa is adequate, but expect the odd unforeseen expense.

It would be a daily drive! Would want to use the car. Wont be tracking it but i do drive quite hard on the odd occassion

Take a look at my profile for some indicative costs - or more accurately, the extremes you could be looking at - first Chim was low cost, second wasn't (although warranty picked up a lot of it!)

Whatever you think it might cost double it, and you still may be nowhere near.. They are great cars, but not for the faint hearted and I don't just mean the performance. They cannot be run on a shoe string (iam sure you are aware of that) but mine (and I admit I have a bad 'un) probably costs more than a ferrari to run. £6000 in less than a year just on repaires.

Well I ran mine on a shoestring.. It all depends on if you buy one that the previous owner spent thousands on, or whether you end up being the previous owner who spent the thousands.

They doubtless CAN cost a fortune, just try and ensure that it's not your fortune.

Tyres £354 - (yes I did track it)
Servicing/1 MOT/Parts etc. £290
Insurance £475
Depreciaton £500
Total cost of ownership £1619

Feel free to look at my profile for running costs. All in - incl depreciation - comes at at about 81p per mile on an average of 7k mls a year for 3 years. Not done on a shoe string however very few non-essential purchases either.

It depends how technically minded you are.

I have a Chimaera 500 and have had it for 3 years. In that time i'd say i've spent about £1500, but i do all my own maintenance.

For my routine service i go to Top Cats Racing in Aylesbury. They are great. £44 an hour, and they really look after your car, as they are independant and want you back.

I had a 24k service with a few other minor issues sorted for £300. Brilliant!!!.

Top Cats are are in the TVR mag, and well worth a visit.

It does concern me some times that the Chim is more pence per mile than the Tuscan and I've not had to replace dampers or the cam yet. At 11 years old and 60k miles I suspect they are going to need doing in the next couple of years.
