I need to buy about 50 burgers for a family BBQ. Has anyone had any experience of Costco burgers? The frozen ones in particular? Quite good value but can't see them as they're in a box.

Aberdeen Angus ones look good but starts to get pricey as I don't think you get many in a pack.

Cheers

Not sure of CostCo quality but Waitrose 4 pack of (actual good meat) beef burgers are on sale at the moment for £1.99 which is only 50p each wink

And they dont shrink (much) when you cook them!

I have tried the Costco non frozen ones which are good, but at that price for the Waitrose ones I would go with them. Had some the other night and they were really good.

Just make your own. Mince, onion, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, garlic, thyme, chilli and mustard.

If its the frozen ones in a stack wrapped in plastic bag then they are very nice, have a real beefy taste to them and solid texture

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Steak burgers are half price at the moment. £2.50 for four. Huge things. One's enough. Greedy barstewards like me can eat two...

Thanks fellas some good calls there. Think I'll get a mixture so hopefully they'll be some everybody likes. Going to do a piece of pulled pork to go with it too and the usual sausages.

I Agree, they're really good but being all thick and excellent it took me a while to perfect the frying, I only turn twice, but have to rotate them loads to keep the cooking even. First side 6 or seven mins several rotations, flip second side about the same then flip again, apply processed cheese then slice rolls and serve. Truly great and just pink in the middle vrey good burgers IMO.

Really wouldn't do thick burgers on a bbq though large thin and quick IMO.

Best burgers round here are from the local butcher. 50p each, well seasoned, little fat and are wide and thinish so they cook quickly and evenly on the BBQ.

The Costco non-frozen ones are the best they do, but more expensive than the frozen ones.

I did a BBQ for 45 recently and in the end bought the mince from Costco and made my own burgers - turned out better than any shop-bought ones, and cheap too.

I can vouch for the Costco frozen burgers in a bag, they're absolutely delicious and beat the Sainsburys/Tesco burgers hands down (frozen or fresh).

My FIL always brings them for bbq's. Not sure how many you get in a bag but they taste epic.

as much mince as you need. allow 6oz per burger. blitz 1/3 of it in a food processor, then mix well with salt & pepper. (don't be shy with the seasoning)

form into patties, and if you can be bothered, form it around 1/2 oz of cheese.

Thanks I will try this but since the BBQ is this weekend I won't have the time to do 50 of them. Sounds a good receipe though.

Took me about an hour to make 45, as a guide...

Yes you can. Interleaf with squares of greaseproof paper / tin foil so you can get them apart later wink

MC's chilli burgers:

500g mince, 20% fat
1 grated onion
1 dried chipotle chilli (or more), soaked and chopped
1 teaspoon Dunn's River all-purpose seasoning
s & p

BBQ and serve with caramelised onions and a slice of red pepper cheese - Asda has a number of these lick

Making burgers is a doddle. I've got a burger maker from Lakeland which cost peanuts and produces burgers in no time. They'll be much better than bought ones, too.

Wot he said. The press is dead useful, and comes with some good recipe ideas (although I don't think I've made the same burger twice). Amazon has just furnished me with 250 new wax dividers too, all I need is some decent weather!
