So, had a flat tyre and needed it changing. Kwik fit is literally around the corner to me and I thought big company, just needs a replacement tyre - what's the worst that can happen.

Cue car returned with a gauged scuffed and gauged alloy. They offered to do the tracking, I like to keep my car in top condition so I accepted. Car pulled to the left afterwards. I did not spot the damage at the time, otherwise would have paid. I've learnt my lesson.

Took car into Seat (needs warrenty work on Bluetooth anyway) and they've now fixed the tracking. Wasn't set up properly.

Went back to Kwik Fit, not particularly interested. Said I needed to see manager in the week (I would have to take time off work) and of course technician said "these things happen".

Put a post up in my local area forum with pics http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... , thanks to the guys that have offered recommendations on wheel refurbs.

Doesn't get a lot of foot fall in that subforum and wanted to post here as I'd hate for anyone else to use these monkeys and come off as I have.

It seems a bit hit and miss with kwik fit, they've had some really good feedback on here recently. I remember a post about their service before and kwik fit head office responded curtiously. You'd probably have been better off dropping them an email with your concerns, they do seem to take them seriously.

The other side of the coin...

I had a blowout on the Civic, pulling off the M5 Junction 12? to Brockworth (Gloucester area). No chance that the Honda repair kit was any good, so managed to crawl to local KF. No tyre in stock, but one a few miles away had one. Manager took my wheel and me, in his own car to the other site, the Manager there and Employee there then stuck a new tyre on, which was a bloody nightmare - Bloody low profile tyres! (and Run Flat which is all they had! - Bloody expensive, but I sold it on evilbay a few weeks later)

This was at closing time, they all worked late and did not complain.

Lesson learned, I now have a space saver

Never had a problem with Kwik Fit in thirty odd years...nono.

I wouldn't take a Ferrari or Lambo there though, but for bread and butter stuff they are OK, in my experience.

You can't get better than a Kwik Fit fitter, they're the boys to trust......

True, hence why I said for bread and butter stuff they are OK.

No way I would trust them with expensive alloys except in an absolute emergency.....

Ive had many an alloy marked in the past by the numpty with the crowbar or when taking off the wheel nuts with the airgun as if hes doing a formula 1 pitstop.

Im dreading having to have my first set of tyres done on my GTR which will be any time soon. The alloys are absolutely immaculate and trying to remove and refit 20inch runflats it just going to be asking for trouble!

Incorrect tracking wouldn't make it pull to one side.

I once took a spare to Kwik-fit, "Yes sir it'll be about half an hour". Went back about two hours later, not done. Went back an hour later, wrong size tyre fitted. Went back later, right size fitted but the wrong way round.

Would I recommend them? Take a guess.

confused Hmmm... I'm also interested to see Nelson further clarify this statement for us. My experiences of having pulling to one side being fixed by a tracking check would indicate that there is a link between the two.

Which brings me nicely onto my last visit to KF about 5 years ago where my car needed two new tyres and had been pulling to one side. Thought I'd get the tracking/alignment checked whilst it was in. I stood with the Polish guy as he had these lasers pointing around all over the place and making them move feet as he adjusted the steering arms. Well I thought, he's certainly adjusted that.

Suffice to say, it pulled twice as bad as it had before so I found a local specialist who could do 4 wheel alignment and have used them for everything tyre related since.

Limited skills but extensive stock on the shelf and decent prices.

If you need a tyre, exhaust or battery and dont have time to go to a motor factor and do it yourself and need it done the same day - Kwik fit can probably help.

If you go there and ask them what else needs done to your car, or get an MOT done there, and end up with a large bill then you are probably a mug.

Horrid company, exist purely on lying to people with no interest & or knowledge of cars, praying on peoples fear.

I was forced to use them ( only company in the west mids late on a Saturday with a correct size tyre & brand on the shelf after a flat) , and was actually really happy with the service until the last few moments, where the guy ( manager!) serving me decided that I really need to replace my three other tyres, as they were (and I quote!) "dangerous & illegal"

Two had over 5mm of tread left, the other 4mm! Needless to say my impression of them went from "actually, they are not as bad as they are made out", to "yup, really are a bunch of shyster cowboy lying s".

Horrid company, I will miss a day of work before using them in a pinch if it ever happens to me again.

Kwik fit recently fitted new tyres on the front of my ibiza sport company car. After a few months trouble free I picked up a serious puncture in one. Their mobile service came to my work with a tyre. The fitter said he couldn't do it as the car had "extra load" tyres on the back from new and what he brought out wasn't. Then he noticed the tyres they previously fitted were not extra load and would need replacing free of charge as it was their mistake. This was a Friday and the right tyres weren't in stock. My car was left at work with a flat but they did hire me a car while waiting for the correct tyres to come
