I'd revive an existing thread if I could find one. I know this has been done but am not sure what the final result was.

So if the decision is that the GTR mirrors are not to someone’s liking then the CanAm version has to be considered. So down to the questions.
• Are the Factory CanAm mirrors the only choice or are there others of the same style?
• Where is the best place to fit them?
It can’t be too far back as the driver will not be able to use them.
How far forward can they go and still retain the IVA requirements for field of view?
• I’m assuming, for the moment, that fitting them to the front clip is out of the question due to strength and rigidity issues.
• What other options are there for mirror design and placement?

Let the discussion begin.

. ive just removed my GTR mirrors.

The problem i had is i like the GTR glass and its alround visability but I had 2 problems.
1/ the wing was in the way as the mirror is so high
and 2/ you need a flexible neck when driving.
The le mans type mirrors by spa or radical are nice but you are restricted by what you can see out of them as they tend to have convex glass and the mirrors are feet away from your eyes and the spa touring car mirrors ive just fitted are great but i cannt reverse with them as they dont stick out far enough to see the curb..
I wanted to do a mirror like a zonda and looked at loads of motorbike mirrors but its finding a compromise of great looks plus useability..So the choice is yours...
Here is a pic of my car after the respray and they look great

I'm sure alternative makes and suppliers were discussed last time.
If not it will have to be the Factory ones.

That is a beautiful car. In general I really like the change to the side and front windows (via vinyl I presume) and the resultant altered look of the car. Much more 'modern' a la R18 or some such. I've thought about doing the same on my factory red car, but doubt I could get a good color match.
The mirrors look great - better than the stock ones but I wouldn't give up the ability for them to serve as rear-view mirrors as well.
I have considered trying out my long desired science project of getting rid of all of the mirrors and use three cameras (and three monitors) wedged against the bottom of the front glass to give a better view without having to take ones eyes off the road. It also would improve aero (enabling the removal of the side mirrors) although how much I don't know, though I have read that outside mirrors comprise a non-trivial component of overall aero friction.
Hmm, I just might give it a go.

I would imagine total absence of mirrors is not legal for the rond, but perhaps some years down the road it may be possible.

thankyou

my mirrors look great but cant reverse with them as they dont see along the side of the car.

I have rear view camera which is great but not the same as looking through a mirror.

Canam ones placed between the front clip and doors i recon is teh way to go..

Those are the large mirrors from Spa?

Car looks great.

I have the same mirrors with a longer stalk that allows them to mount on the surface of the door rather than the window. In nearly the same position as yours.

Steve - mine are can am style on my GTR and passed IVA. Originally fitted at the normal can-am height to ensure field of view was fine, but then I've since reduced the height of them approx 85mm to improve the looks which are now exactly as I wanted - factory look, with good field of view (but not the standard GTR position). See pics.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks Ken.....they are the middle size of the 3 sizes they do 132mm wide... not the large 148mm ones..

Thinking of lengthening the stalks, have you got some pics??

Also i went for flat glass on drivers side which is excellent at seeing cars behind and convex on passenger side to see at sides too..

I think this is what I am going to do with mine. There is something much more visually pleasing about the position of these mirrors than those on the GTR.

Has anyone done wing mirrors on the wings? Proper can-am style?

They would not be high enough to see over the rear wheel arches.

Nice photo, I havn't seen that UOP CanAm since the Geneva Car Show in the 70's. I made a poster size photo of the front. I wonder if I still have it somewhere... It used to hang in my office
