looking for some opinions on the 5 speed vs 6 speed G50 gearbox's, is there a benefits having a extra gear, knowing the ultima is so light and powerful?

next question, is there benefits in fitting the LSD to above gearbox?

many thanks

Horses for courses, final drive for them can be hugely different on the various types but if you have one that tops out at 200+ mph then I for one would say six speed is a waste on road, these cars are torque monsters (generally) and stirring a box around when you can break traction at will strikes me as a bit pointless.
I just had the pre-load re-set on my plate lsd smokin . A world of difference, but I prefer the feed back from
the plate type lsd as opposed to the on off coasty ATB types.
Also just changed the ratio of clutch master cylinder and pedal to give a more user friendly interface.(my knee was trying to pop out if I had to hold it down for longer than a few seconds at lights and junctions).

G50/52 Turbo 5 speed (9" crown wheel)CMS billet side plate, oil cooling added but seldom sees temps to kick the pump into action.

Be truthful to yourself as to the use the car is going to get. If this is going to be a road car get a box with road manners and maybe the accelleration. You wont need a box that will do 200mph+ nor lsd.
Its very easy to get caught up in the big numbers and the hype ( i know and so does my wallet). If its going to be a tourer there are certain boxes that suit that application to. Im sure GrahamP will tell you all about that one.

Proper honest planning is the key to a good Ultima IMHO.

^ All as above......... even in a five speed trans, first gear is only really needed for parking etc.
Big torque monster engines in light cars just dont need lots of little gears to go quickly from A-B....... how many gears do the top drag cars have ?
If you were planning a very high revving, short stroke, original SBC (9000 redline) then six gears might be useful.... occasionally.

Hi ive got the g50 with lsd which is handy for getting the power down , or show boating ( not that im a showoff no no never ) and the long 5th gear 1500 revs @ 50mph or 100 mph @ 3000 and it still pulls nice in 5th and i dont feel it drops off cam / out of power band going from 4th to 5th when driven in anger or even driven just at motorway cruising type speeds

dont even need a 5 speed.

Mate has a 3 speed in his 600hp tiger

G50/52 in mine, lsd high 5th gear works ok.

no need for 6, too much torque in the engine to need the 6

I have the G50/20 six speed. I go up the box 2 gears at a time as there is so much torque to use.
3 or 4 gears would be fine.
