I have now sold all the toy cars and im looking for a good daily to got to meeting, carry a set of ladder and just get back and forth to the office. for years I have had a astra van of some shape or form for work and my own car for the evening and weekends. Now im looking to just have one car. Estates seem to be the way forwards, as I can do all of the above and use for my new found hobby of mountain biking. any advise on what to look for etc. I like the the 3 series touring and as they are bring out a new shape there are a few pre reg ones kicking about with very low milage.

Current 3er estate is not that big.

I'd go for a Mondeo/Passat myself.

Subaru Forester, does all of the above you need and with All Wheel Drive and higher ground clearance than the average estate you will be able to take your MTB anywhere. Great interior space too so bike will even fit inside, or stick roofbars oni it like I do. Very well equipped and available with a fast Turbo engine too. Great motors, well worth a look.

The mondeo does look good in all aspects other than, I never want to own a Ford EVER again. there cars are ok but the dealers all seem to be utter knobs. I keep getting in mondeo taxis and thinking this is nice, then seeing the badge on the wheel LOL

Passat Tdi. Comfy to cruise around in all day long and great workhorses.

a STI 2007 shape would be nice but I will be doing 20K a year so the running cost will be a little high.

Subaru Legacy. Better and bigger than a Forester unless you need the ground clearance.

My 20 inch frame MTB fits easily in an Octavia with wheels on (hatch or est) with the seats dropped down, drives pretty well to. They do the Scout version which is a 4X4 or if you want a degree of performance there's the VRS versions in either petrol (needs a remap) or the diesel which is a pretty compelling package.
